PartSelect.com, an online do-it-yourself appliance repair resource, plans to announce today that it will donate $2,300 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) for breast cancer research. The contest was open to the public for four months and received entries across the United States and Canada. “It was a great success,” says Natalie Downing, Marketing Coordinator for PartSelect. “We received over 92 entries from across North America, had a lot of fun, and were able to donate a considerable amount to a great cause.”
The National Breast Cancer Foundation’s mission is to save lives, spread knowledge, and foster hope. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime which is why increasing awareness for the disease is so important. With higher awareness levels, hopefully early detection rates and mammogram availability will increase which will lead to a decrease in fatalities.
The ‘Paint it Pink’ contest required participants to paint the pink awareness ribbon on their home appliances and submit a photo online for an entry into the contest. For each entry submitted, PartSelect.com pledged to donate $25.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition, four lucky winners received a pink appliance prize package from Kitchen Aid.
“The money we raised will go towards finding a cure for this unnecessary disease that affects so many lives across the country,” Downing added. “Second to skin cancer, women in the United States get breast cancer more than any other type of cancer.” And it’s true. Every year, nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will lose their battle against the disease. Additionally, 1,700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die annually.
“It was great to be part of the solution for such a monumental battle,” says Downing. “And the passion in the participants for this contest was like no other. I hope we get the chance to do a contest like this again in the near future.”
Contributing to the National Breast Cancer Foundation is easy. Anyone can make donations securely online using a credit card, or by mailing a check for your donation to their headquarters in Texas. National Breast Cancer Foundation donors can choose to mark donations anonymously and/or in honor of a cherished family member or friend.
