left front burner only on high temp
Remove 8 screws from perimeter of the cooktop lower frame. Glass lifts out (note it is heavy). Remove screws around control section to lift up the controllers. Disconnect wires from non-functioning module. Note you will need pliers to pull them off. I pulled off one at a time and connected the wire to the new module so that I did not rewire incorrectly. Remove screws holding the old module and insert the new module. Replace all screws and glass top.

Very easy fix.

Left Front inside burner full-hot only
First I turned off the power at the circuit-breaker. Next, I disconnected the wires to the cooktop pigtail in the junction box. I lifted the cooktop from the countertop by pushing up from under the countertop. I raised it up enough to slip some wood slats in to hold it up. I finally was able to support the unit on two two-by-fours which bridged the opening in the countertop. It is important to keep the unit topside up. The screws which hold the top in place all go in from the outside all around the perimeter of the top. Once the screws are out and the knobs pulled off, the glass top can be lifted off from the metal assembly which holds the controls. An ell-shaped sheet metal guard must be removed first. Then all of the screws must be removed from the control box. Raise the control box, remove one connector at a time from the defective switch and connect each to the same terminal on the replacement. Remove the two screws that hold the defective switch. Remove the defective switch and replace it with the new one. Then put everything back together and reconnect the wiring. Turn power on at the circuit breaker and it should work fine. Do not pry against the glass top when separating it. You can pry gently between the metal parts. Be sure all of the screws are out first.

Cracked cooktop, faulty control
About three months ago, the glass surface cooktop started to develop cracks similar to what happens to a car windshield. About a month ago, the cracks turned into fault lines, making the glass surfaces unlevel and rendering the burner unusable. Also, the lower left burner dual control would not go to simmer after being on high. No information could be obtained about how to access the cooktop. I placed a service call to a local appliance repairer. For a service call fee of $54, he instructed me on how to pull the oven to access the cooktop, and quoted a price of about $725 to replace the glass surface and defective control. For about $350 in parts and about 3 hours labor, I replaced the glass and control, and banished a terrible buzzing noise the oven was making during preheat and baking.

A heat control switch was broken.
I first turned off the power to the stovetop at the breaker box, disconnected the power supply wires, removed the stovetop from the counter, placed the stovetop on a towel on the kitchen table, removed the screws connecting the glass top to the base, removed the glass top, removed additional screws holding the sheetmetal housing for the switches, opened this area and located the faulty switch, disconnected the wires leading to the faulty switch, connected the wires to the new switch, secured the switch to the sheetmetal housing and put the unit back together. It was not a difficult repair, just took a little time.

My left front dual element would only work in the high setting no matter where you put the controls. The same for the single element. They came on but was in the high setting no matter where you move the control. After looking a the back of the control switch, i ordered the same switch (wp9759474). I was careful to move only one wire at the time, because the new switch wasn't labeled. I matched the switches to make sure i had it turned correctly. Now i can control the element settings, but i no longer have the dual element, only the inter element. I guess the outer element isn't connected. I am trying to find a wiring diagram that will show me what color wire goes where. The wiring diagram is visible under the cool top but doesn't show wire colors.

Hello and thank you for writing. Before you do that you might want to test the element for continuity with a multimeter as this could be the issue. If that does not solve the issue let us know and we will do the research for you to find you the correct colors for your wire hook up. We hope this helps. Please contact us anytime if you require further assistance.

The front left burner on my Whirlpool Gold countertop range has a bridge element. One half of the switch controls the burner only and the other half controls the bridge with the burner. It will turn one or both on but only on the highest setting. Is part number PS11747252 the correct switch?
For model number GJC3634RB01

Is this the switch for the largest dual burner. My switch is split in half by function. One half operates the smaller inner burner the other half controls the inner and outer together. In my situation in the dual mode the switch intermittently controls at the highest setting which is the setting that has been used 90% of the time. Playing with switch for now gets the high setting active. I fear a failure is eminent and possibly presents a fire hazard.

Hi steve: I looked up the rt. Rear burner switch for my Whirlpool cook top and came up with # ps1174725. My question is does this switch have the standard two flat side with clip shaft or is it the small square shaft with adapters?

How do you test a dual element to see if its bad.
For model number GJC3034LB01
PartSelect logo
Hi Sam, Thank you for your question. You can often determine whether or not a radiant element is burned out by physically inspecting the burner. Most times you will see that part of the element is burned out and then you will know that your element is the part not working. However you can also test your element with a multi-meter. When using a multi-meter, make sure to turn to the lowest setting of OHMS of resistance. The calibrate your needle so that it falls on 0. To test the element you use the probes of your multi-meter to touch the probes of your element directly. If the meter does not move that means that your element is non functional and you will have to replace it. I hope this helps!
