took the ice maker all a part and placed new ice bucket auger back in it.
PartSelect ROCKS! Couldn't have been easier to do the repairs. Parts arrived in 2 days, everything I ordered was in the box. Minutes later my refrigerator was fixed!!!Thanks PartSelect, looks like I don't need the yellowpages anymore! P.S. I ordered a part I didn't need, called customer service and the return process couldn't be simpler. I will happily use you again and highly recommend you to my family and friends.
Ordered new auger, removed old one, and put it back together.
Took the parts brake down off the web site and disassembled the ice maker, making sure to keep all the parts in order of the way they came off the unit. Reassembled the unit slowly to make sure all went back in the proper order. Could not have been easier. The ice maker is working like it did from the factory. I think i saved around Two hundred dollars by doing the job myself.
Did the job at my desk with your repair video on my PC. Step-by-step, I followed the video, pausing and restarting the video for each "task". Piece of cake. With your videos as back-up, I consider myself now an expert appliance repairman (I'm 86). What makes your videos different is that you show the "put it back together" process in as much detail as the "take it apart" process.
Repair went very well. The video helped taking it apart and putting it back together.
Replacement was easy, especially with the video as a guide.
The on-line video helped the most. Most of the time was spent removing the ice crusher housing from the ice bucket. I suggest using a putty knife over a screw driver to minimize damage to plastic parts.
My hubby had the problem fixed in a matter of minutes thanks to your video. Many thanks for making this such a pain free job, I will be back and will recommend you. An added bonus was you r price was considerably less than GE.
removed the ice traydumped out iceremoved screws to access both auger and crusher bodyremove both from trayremove crusher body by unlatching the plastic notchesremove nut from auger and remove cover/S.S.fingers and augerassemble reverse order.Very simple.
The hardest part was identifying the product, and where to get it. Once ordered, I followed these steps- Reviewed the parts diagram- Removed the ice tray- Undid the 3 screws holding it together (one on top, two on bottom)- Pulled apart the unit.- Used a screw driver to remove the C style clamp holding the auger in- Used a pair of pliers to remove the "ice crusher" from the auger (Note!! this is a reverse thread)- Reversed the procedure to install the new one
removed screws, pulled auger out keeping ice crushing blades intact, removed broken auger, installed new auger and re-assembeled. if you are mechanically inclined the process is fairly simple.
Removal of the auger is relatively simple but you must be aware that the plastic nut that holds the ice crusher arms on has LEFT handed threads - meaning you have to twist clockwise to remove it. This was frustrating to me to figure out. Hope this helps you avoid my frustration.Getting the spring for the trap door was also a bit frustrating but I got it after a while.Good luck with your project.
The old auger was very difficult to take apart. When we finally got it loose all the gears in the back popped off and had to be put back one at a time. Next time I have a problem with the ice maker I will probably order the whole tray.
