Pulled the old one out and replaced it with a new one.Very Simple.
the ice maker is held in by on screw. then whole unit comes out.three more 1/4 inch screws hold main unit in.put unit back in was makeing ice in under 30 min.i ordered part wed night recieved it on fri. highly reccomend parts direct.oh yeah my 14 year old son did the repair because i was out of town.
Researched the problem online regarding a stuck icemaker. Found an online video demonstrating how to troubleshoot the problem. From there, I disassembled the icemaker and discovered the icecube tray to be worn (teflon coating flaking). Also, I discovered other parts that appeared to be damaged. I found the individual parts on PartSelect however, PartSelect suggested the entire Icemaker (was cheaper than the individual parts). I purchased the item from PartSelect on Saturday and the parts arrived Tuesday (fast service). I then proceeded to to reverse install the icemaker by transfering items that were not included in the unit, attaching it with three screews, sliding the unit in place, attaching the power cable, attaching the power cable cover, and re-attaching the icemaker cover one the refrigerator. Total time to install was lees than 5 minutes. I now can enjoy ice chilled drinks.
I paid for a service call to have the problem diagnosed, and then ordered and changed the parts myself, saving about 50% off the original estimate.
Actually I watched the video provided on the website and read 3-4 other users installation instructions. This made the repair extremely easy to do, although my refrigerator was a side by side and the icemaker was mounted across the top instead of the sides it was still very easy to change out with the instructions provided. Part price and delivery was excellent. I will use Parts Select again.
I googled Whirlpool Replacement Parts and your site was listed in the search. I looked at your site and found over 29 people had the same issue. I read their reports and advice and went immediately and removed the ice maker. It was simple just having to use a nutdriver to remove three nuts. I looked up the replacement product on your site, ordered it and within two days I had the part. I replaced the new ice maker in less than 5 minutes and ice was being produced within a couple of hours and within 24 hours the bin was full and all was well. Great site and quick service. Thanks.
Removed 3 screws from under icemaker and slid unit forward until I could disconnect plug on right side, which was the most difficult step of the process, and pulled icsmaker out.Reversed the procedure with new unit, had a little difficulity with the rubber spout for the water fill, and in a while I had ice again. Thanks to the info on your site I was able to verify that the valve solenoid was working properly so it saved me a step.A word of caution-the icemaker plug has 120vac so unplug refrigerator before repair attempt.
Easy repair overall. Removed three screws and icemaker casing, removed old icemaker and replaced with the new. Bracket was a little tough to get back in place.
Fast delivery! Easy to install and works fine so far.
slide old ice maker out, unplug, plug new ice maker in, slide in place
I disassembled original ice maker to find a short between the motor housing and the tray heater. Easiest to replace full assembly. Ordered new part, and after it arrived...Removed front ice maker door and rear power wire cover. Slide out ice maker and removed the reusable parts and installed on new assembly. Installed new ice maker in reverse. Ice maker immediately filled with water but never went into harvest mode. I figured the optics board was bad, but it wasn't. I removed the transmitter and receiver, and let them warm to room temperature and reinstalled after cleaning optics with cotton swab. The ice maker started working like a charm.
I unbolted the old ice maker, pulled it out, unplugged it and then I put in the new one...it was exactly the same. I had ice coming out within 30 minutes!
we ordered the complete ice maker assembly, since we were unsure as to which part was broken. It was extremely easy to replace and our ice maker is perfect!!! The price was very reasonable. This is a great company!!
Removed defective icemaker. Used nutdriver to remove screws. Pull ou old unit. Disassemble old unit to use required parts to attach to the new unit. Slide in new unit but encountered problem with the fill funnel height. This was different than the original unit. I had to bend up the rubber fill spout in order to slide in the icemaker. This took several attempts because there is not much clearance. Installed screw and icemaker was back in action.
