Hi Karen, Thank you for your question. The defrost thermostat is located with the evaporator coils behind the panel in the freezer section. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I just replaced the evap fan in my fridge because it was seized, and not getting cold. Now the cabinet is constantly frozen. Is this a part i should look to diagnose?

Hi Rick, Thank you for your question. It could be your defrost thermostat that is the issue however I would actually suggest that you take a look at your temperature sensor first. It may be that part has also failed. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

my ge fridge is frezzing my food vegstables tray i already replace the fan motor still freezing up , also my ice maker not making ice and no water coming out with a new filter been replace any ideas?
For model number PFE28PSKSS

Hello Jose, thank you for reaching out. The thermistor monitors the air temperature and sends the temperature reading to the control board. The control board then regulates power to the compressor and evaporator fan based on the thermistor readings. If the thermistor is defective, the compressor and evaporator fan may run too frequently. As a result, the refrigerator will be too cool. We recommend you replace the temperature sensor, part number PS304103. similarly, water issue is caused by the faulty water inlet valve. Replace the water inlet valve, part number PS6011774. We hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

Hi Brad, Thank you for your question. I would also suggest checking the defrost heater as well. You can test both parts with a multi meter to be sure they are working or not. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Okay question for the question: Do I access from the back or through the freezer and do I have to take the assembly out to get to it. Kinda looks that way.. Hi Karen, Thank you for contacting us back. You will need to remove the back panel of the freezer to gain access to the thermostat. Once the panel is removed you will see where the thermostat clips onto the coils. Very sorry but I am not sure what Assembly you are referring to. Once the back panel of the freezer is removed, the only part you will need to take out is the thermostat its self. Hope this helps!

Hello again. Problem: Initial problem: Frig too warm and freezer too cold, replaced thermostat and temperature sensor. Now both too warm? Evaporator fan is working, frig is running? ideas? Is there another temperature sensor, maybe in the frig? Thank you Karen
For model number PYE23KSDCSS
PartSelect logo
Hi Karen, Thank you for the question. Yes, both the Fresh Food and Freezer have a sensor. The sensor sends the temperature reading of the refrigerator towards the control board. If both sides are warm you may need to replace the control board. Hope this helps!

My freezer is getting warm, but fridge still works. I took off the panel behind the freezer and there was a block of ice near the top right. I melted it with a blow dryer yesterday.
