I picked this part because our dishwasher started (a) making lots of loud, unusual sounds and (b) doing a terrible job of getting dishes clean. I'm sure there was a more specific part within the sump assembly that could have been replaced but without paying someone to diagnose it, I wasn't interested in the idea of trial and error part replacement. Replaced the whole sump (still better than replacing the whole dishwasher!) and works like new. Most difficult part was getting the new sump into place. Sounds like some other people forced it in. I didn't get a mallet out or anything, but it did take trial and error and some strong hand force.

Issue: Noisy circulation motor due to failed top bearing ... the result of a leaking motor shaft packing seal. "PartSelect Troubleshooting" points you to the circulation motor assembly PS3579321, but doesn't tell you that you need a new motor shaft packing/seal PS3522655(?), that complicated disassembly of the sump assembly is required, and that any imperfection in alignment, shaft surface, etc., will lead to renewed leaking & failure. (Statement that motor "drops out" is incorrect - impeller is screwed to shaft end.) You'll be much happier if you spend 50% more and buy the full Sump Assembly PS7788926. Easy to swap out in about an hour (after watching youtube tutorial), and all moving parts will be factory new.
