Drum Bearing Slide - White

Removed top, removed front to expose front of drum. Replaced bearing with new slides and installed new felt.

Cleaned out all the old lint from the exaust chute. This was surprisingly full. Everyone should pay attention here as this could lead to a fire.

Overall the repair was easy, parts were correct. One note, order 2 each of the slides, I only ordered 1 each and had to reuse one old one and had to make a new one.

First and most important - safety. Either unplug the dryer or shut off the circuit breaker. Remove the two screws to the top cover. To locate these screws just open the door as they are located at the top of the door opening. Remove screws and lift up the top cover and carefully pull towards you. Place to the side away from the work area. This now will expose two screws within the side panels holding the front door and front housing. Remove the two screws, lift up and out to remove front housing assemble. Be careful when you remove as the wiring to the light fixture is included. Just remove cover and place side ways close to the dryer.
Remove the bulb then remove the white plastic drum bearing (snaps out or in when replacing with a flat screwdriver).
Prior to installing the new drum bearing install the four white slide strips on top of the drum bearing. Review the old parts for comparison. These actually act as the bushings between the drum bearing and the clothes drum. Please keep in mind the slides do not come with the drum bearing when ordering. You must order seperately. Once the new assemble is snapped into the metal front cover/door now you can re-assemble. While you have the drum exposed it's a good time to check the belt for wear. Sometimes a worn or ripped belt can be the same symptom of the thumpimg sound. For the assemble just reverse all the earlier steps. Plug cord back in or turn on the circuit breaker and run the dryer. You should be good to go for more years of service.

First opened cold Bud then pulled screwdriver out of toolbox. Removed all of six screws (quality workmanship of appliance) and put on 6 pieces of plastic (do they make metal any more??????).

Open it up. Try to fix with duct tape. Test. Fail. Order parts.

Put slides on, open it up, put parts on door, align drum, close it up.

Start, smile and BRAG!!!!

Works faster, fluffer clothes and I'm a happy Mom because now I can run whenever and there is less wrinkles.

TOOK OFF CONTROL PANEL,TOP,LEFTSIDE FACING DOOR,AND,DOOR PANEL.REPLACE THE 2 GREEN AND 2 WHITE SLIDES, THE FRONT DRUM BEARING, THE REAR BEARING AND GROUNDIND STRAP BEHIND THE HEATING ELEMENT,AND NEW BELT.PUT BACK TOGETHER,RUN'S AND SOUNDS LIKE NEW. THE HARDEST PART WAS PUTTING DRUM BEARING IN INSIDE AND BACKSIDE OF DRUM BY YOURSELF.REPLACE BELT WITH LEFT SIDE PANEL OFF. EASY TO GET ON THAT WAY.

I first unplugged the dryer and moved to an open area to work on it. I then removed the three screws that held the access plate to disconnect the drive belt from the motor. Second I removed the two screws that held the top cover on then I removed it and set it aside. Third I removed the control station the thing with all the knobs on it that was about 11 screws (there were a mix of different types of screws some were Hex, Torx and Square tip). Fourth I removed the two screws that held the front door assembly on. I did not need to disconnect any wires to the front door.Fith I removed the Drum assembly by lifting and pressing outward on the outside walls of the frame I then carried the drum and set it on secure surface and then removed the three screws that held the bearing in from the inside. After cleaning the dryer after all components were removed I then removed the heating element that holds the bearing sleeve. I then started putting things back together in reverse order until it came time for the front door upper slide assembly that came off pretty easily it just clipped on I put the white and red sliders on first then I put the whole thing on it just clipped on then I put the front door on and screwed it on and finished putting things back on in reveres order. Then plugged it up and gave it test run and no noise and it runs great I hope for another ten years.

I removed several torx srews across the back control panel. Removed two philips screws under top of front dryer door. Pulled up on top surface of dryer case. Removed two more screws on backside of front door panel. Pulled front door panel forward and inserted drum slides into slots that they just popped into with a small button rod to keep them in place. The old drum slides were completely worn down or fell off. It runs like a new one again. It is over 10 years old.
The new door handle just snapped into place.
Original door handle had been broken off for several years.

I first removed four screws above the door opening to lift off the top, then removed two screws, near the top, inside the front, to remove the front. There I found that 2 grey plastic and one white plastic anti-friction strips were worn to nothing (even the large plastic bezel that incorporates the light was starting to wear away, from just a few days!).

When I went to put the front back on, i couldn't get the lip of the drum to ride properly on the felt. In fiddling with it, the drum fell off the rear bearing, too, so I put it back on.

So I ordered new felt, two white and two grey strips (I didn't know if 1 or 2 were in each $8 "kit"--only one per kit), a spare belt--just in case--and some bulbs.

Putting the strips on was easy--15 seconds each. Putting on the felt took all of 20 seconds. I spent more time scraping off the dust and vacuuming things out!

The drum fit over the felt quite easily now, and when I ran it, it was wonderfully quiet. For a minute! Then, it started making a new, grinding noise!

I had a Sears repairman friend come over, and he found that a small platic bushing had fallen off the rear bearing element. Once he put that in place, it all worked perfectly. Beautifully quiet!

Opening the dryer door and removed the two screws located at the top of the opening. Pop off top lid of dryer by lifting up on front, and slide forward. I needed to break it loose by prying it up with a screw driver (use light pressure, be careful not to bend/scrape top), as it was first time every being removed. Remove two screws at top of front panel, hold up drum, and pull front panel forward. Unplug electrical cable to door, and removed front panel. Removed and replaced all four slides (2 Green slides & 2 Clear slides). Removed felt drum seal and replaced by lightly pushing in slots (couple of very light pushes using a screw driver was also needed). Placed front panel back on slots at bottom of dryer (REMEBER TO PLUG IN DOOR SWITCH), lifting (lightly) up on drum, and push in place, replaced all parts in reverse order. Top was a little tricky getting back on, but with a little push it snapped in place. Plugged in dryer performed test run everything worked perfect. First looked up on Google how to correct the squeak. Almost got into an internet trap by a you tube video looking to seel the slides for $20.00 (white) & $24.00 (green) each but luckily found your website. I originally ordered just the slides (first order) then aferwards ordered everything. Replacement parts fit right in without any struggle.

Order and repair went fine. Just followed installation instructions already posted. However, after the repair it would overheat and shut off. Tested thermostats and they were good. Forums repeatedly talked about air flow problems but I knew it was clean. Ended up putting foam weather stripping on inside of front panel where it meets duct of squirrel fan and that fixed it.

Looked up the problem and solution on the web and,ah-ha, drum slides should be the cure. Easy to install, . Back to the internet to discover that after the slides, the bearing and felt liner were the next likely culprits. Again easy install, but to no avail. Calling in the pros.

Took the top of the dryer off by removing two philips screws in front. Removed two screws holding the front of the dryer on. Pulled the front out enough to reveal the worn drum slides. Replaced them. Reassembled.

UNPLUG DRYER FIRST.Open dryer door find 2 screws at top of dryer door opening ( pointing upward). Remove screws and pop top panel of dryer up and remove it. Remove 2 screws near top of front panel (on the inside facing toward you). Careful not to drop them down into dryer interior. Pop front panel with door attached forward by tilting toward you. then lift off bottom tabs and turn panel / door assembly to the side. Careful not to pull wires at bottom loose. Carefully pop "Drum Bearing" off. This is the half moon shaped part that the "Drum Slides" (2) clear and(2) "green" pop on to. Replace drum bearing. Put new slides (4) on drum bearing. Replace felt seal. Place front panel back on dryer by carefully lifing dryer drum up while pushing front panel onto dryer. This allows the drum to "sit" on the felt seal. Put screws back onto top of front panel. Replace top panel , which can be tricky, by aligning tabs near contol panel with slots on top panel then lowering front of top panel into place. Then put screws back near top of door opening to secure top panel. Test dryer by turning off the heat on the heat setting knob and allow dryer to run for a time. Then try it with some clothes and heat. If it is still making noise then check rear bearing/bushing. Mine was fine and this repair fixed the issue. By the way, all but one of my 4 slides were worn to nothing and the drum had been "eating" into the "drum bearing making it paper thin in several areas. The felt was worn out also. This allowed the drum to settle down and gap at top which allowed clothes and dryer sheets to get caught between drum and dryer cabinet.

1 Unplug power cord. 2 Remove top and front panels. 3 Remove old bearing, slides and bulb. 4 Install new bearing slides and bulb. Reinstall front and top panels. 5 Restore power and test. Time to repair 25 minutes. Very satisfied with the parts and the time to receive them, very good parts service. Will definately use this service in the future and will highly recommend this company.
