Took old element off, pushed new element on. Piece of cake.
The range, (1988 Tappan) was givin to the church by one of our members. While using it, --after a period of time-- the wire burnt off to one of the burners. Since the couple gave us a brand new top for the stove that was still in the box, we decided to fix the stove up.Now, with new wiring to all four burners, new shiney drip pans and,,,,a new top, we have a very new looking stove for in our church kitchen. The parts I ordered from PartsSelect, came in just a few days of placing the order, This is one site that I have wrote down in my address book for any future parts to items we may need.
This range is probably 30+ years old. Still works great. Just needed to replace the Drip Bowls.
Unplugged elements. Removed old pans. Wiped out holes. Inserted new pans, replaced elements.
I unplugged the stove from the power plug in the wall. There are two screws at the back of the oven to hold the element in place. I removed the two screws. There are wire clamp inserts that attach to the element. Once the element was loose from the back wall of the oven, I gently pulled out the wire clamps. Removed the element. I laid the new element in the bottom of the oven and gently pushed the wire clamps into the new element. Re-attached the screws and put the power back into the wall and I was done. Easy, easy, easy. As for the drip pans, I pulled the element from the plug just under the stove top, cleaned the element and replaced the old drip pans with the new. Slid the element back into the plug and I was done.
1. First I pulled out the heating element from stovetop and removed old pan (no screws) very simple. 2. Put new pan in and inserted the heating element back in place.
I've been to many appliance repair stores looking for White-Westinghouse Stove Parts and have been told their 'unavailable'! Then I checked PartsSelect.com- and they were listed as 'available'. The 6" & 8" Drip Bowls shipped quick and arrived packed well. The new Drip Bowls aren't as heavily made as the originals- but they are exact replacements and very easy to replace. The wife is happy and with many replacement parts & how-to-videos for repair we plan on keeping this stove for another 20 years!
The drip pans were a snap to replace, and the bake element was almost as easy. It just took a screwdriver to pull out the broken element, detached the wires, plugged them to the new ones and screwed it back in. Super easy fix and it works great.
