Freezer stopped, tripped circuit breaker

Freezer was not running, I reset circuit breaker and it immediately tripped. Noticed smoke coming from behind freezer. I pulled freezer away from the wall and visually checked the compressor and a black plastic box connected to the compressor (later found out the box is called a controller) I pulled the controller off the compressor and saw that it was burnt and melted. I ordered a controller from you, not knowing if that was the problem, but I took the $50.00 chance (cost of controller) I removed the old controller from the wires by sliding a small screwdriver along a slot in the plastic next to the wire and it released the wire, I did the same to the other wire and reconnected the wires to the new controller, observing what color went to what connector on the controller. Then I plugged the controller onto the compressor and reset the circuit breaker and plugged the freezer in bingo, it started right up and has been running now for over a week.
