The microwave oven started sparking when unit turned on.
When I turned on our 15 year old Kitchen Aid Microwave Oven it started sparking and sputtering. At first I thought there was an electrical short circuit under a cover in the oven. The cover was partly disintegrated when I removed it [one screw] and the owner’s manual stated that the cover is called a ‘Waveguide Cover’. The reason for the sparking and sputtering is that grease had accumulated around and under the Phillips screw head that secures the waveguide cover in place.
I contacted the store where I purchased the microwave oven and the customer service guy told me they no longer carried parts for my microwave oven due to its age. However, he was helpful and recommended PartsSelect.com and a local parts outlet. I call the local parts store and they told me that it would take one to two weeks for the part to be shipped to my address. Our Kitchen Aid Microwave/Convection Oven is used heavily and we could not go more then a day with it out of service. I went online to PatsSelect.com, typed in the part number and presto there it was. I ordered the part, shipped overnight, and received and installed it by lunchtime the following day.
Ordering my part at PartsSelect.com was the easiest online purchase I ever made.
Thanks for being there Parts Select.
