The upper agitator arm would not rotate

It was extremely easy. I removed the plastic cap under the softener dispenser, removed the nut and washer that holds the upper agitator in place and then replaced the parts that came in the kit. The most important note for those who may be doing this job is that the o-ring for the cap under the softener dispenser, the seal washer for the bolt and the thrust spacer under the upper agitator all came with the kit. I did not realize that and ordered them all seperately.

Top section of agitator not turning

Found directional gogs broken. Searched washer model # on PS.com and easily found schematic drawing. Received parts in a couple of days. Removed agitator with one nut, and other parts just pulled apart. Replaced the cogs and other parts which were not really broken....just worn. Everything went back together easily, and I was done! Parts Select saved me a LOT of time, and especially money, than if I had called a repair co. THANKS!

Top part of agitator broken

Removed the softerner dispenser and the inner cap and seal. Removed the mounting bolt. Pulled on Auger and entire agitator came out. I needed to separate the parts. It said to stand on the bottom and pull on the top. I am an "older" woman and after wrestling with it for an hour without success I waited for my nephew to come by to separate the two pieces. When he did, it popped apart and all the parts went flying. Poor guy thought he had broken it. After conviencing him that that was what I wanted it to do, he left. Dirrections weren't very clear as to what went on first and I didn't have the convience of seeing it before it flew apart. Finally put it together and replaced the bolt. To no avail, something was wrong. My sister was making the same repair at her house across the street so we double teamed it. She came over and told me that I needed to put the Bottom agitator in the machine, then the spacer thrust, then the auger, then the assembled cam and cam dogs, then the bolt. All went well and was working.......so we thought. Started a washer load and the washer started leaking water. Don't know why, still don't know why. All I did was remove everything, put it back the very same way, and it hasn't leaked since. Go figure!

Agitator slipping

Removed bolt in center of agitator then slid agitator straight up and out replaced the dogs and the other parts that came with the cam kit i also replaced a few of the other parts that wear in the agitator ,you can actually re-cut the teeth on the dogs with a razor so that they will work again ,but new parts are very reasonably priced and the parts arrived very quickly the next day .

Agitator coming off when clothes are pulled out

The retainer was broken and likely because the washer was worn down and allowed the whole thing to move more and more over time. Got the exact parts I needed and the repair could not have been easier.

Upper agitator not turning

Simple repair. Removed bolt holding agitator and pulled up on the upper agitator. Depending on how old the washer is, you may have to use a rubber mallet to break upper agitator free. Installed new cam kit and problem was fixed.

Agitator was not turning during every wash

I am a woman and not very experienced with large appliance repairs. This was very simple thanks to the diagram posted and the other comments. It saved us time, repair costs and a new washer for now. The ultimate recycling :). Thank you to all who posted

Agitator would spin in both directions

First I removed the fabric softener bowl and the cap with the O ring. This exposes the 7/16 hex head screw that secures the whole agitator assembly. After removing the screw the whole assembly can be removed from the washer. By lifting up on the upper half of the assembly while holding down on the bottom half they should come apart (a little pressure is needed). From there you just lift out the unit containing the cogs and replace them. Once you see the part it is pretty self explanatory how it goes together. Re-assemble it the same way it came apart.

Agitator would not rotate properly due to worn cogs

Removed softener container on agitator then the round cover under it to access the agitator bolt. Used socket wrench with extension to remove bolt. I then lifted the top half of agitator out of the washer and dumped cog housing. Replaced cogs with new ones (they're convex and fit in slots in the housing) and then placed the housing back in the agitator while aligning the holes on the cog housing with the tabs on the agitator.
