Had to remove backing.
The back of the dial would not fit my Kitchen Aid countertop oven, and it was to tight.
The solution was easy to solve I just removed the two small Phillips head screws on the back of the new dial along with removing the original backing dial screws placed the old backing on the new dial lined everything up. Then switched it out, maybe a total of five minutes. I was fortunate enough to have a tiny screwdriver to do this; others might not be as lucky.
It would have been five stars if just a clean swap so, I guess a solid three would be fair.

Will instructions be provided? Can I look at them before ordering the part to make sure I want to take this on?Also on the part ordering page, it is identifying the timer as part 12, but on my toaster it is in the location of part 13. Will this timer still work?
For model number KCO222OB0
Hi Fenton, Thank you for the question. The timer knob for the Light, Med, Dark is item # 13 Part Number: PS3489757. The timer knob with the "On' and the numbers from 0 to 60 is item#12 PartSelect Number PS3489758.The knobs just pull off and push on. Hope this helps!
