Dyer start knob broke.
Dryer is 3 yeras old. This dryer switch / start knob broke three times. First two GE repair fixed it. Charge was about $75 to $100. Then I found Parts Select, Who what great prices. Switch cost under $10. and took me 10 minutes to install. Dryer works great again. OH, I ordered an extra switch to have on hand.

The switch finally failed to start the dryer
I moved the dryer away from the wall and unplugged the electrical cord. I unscrewed the 4 screws on the top of the dryer to gain access to the Dryer Rotary Start Switch. I pulled the part out of its set location and carefully removed the clip on wires. I then carefully attached the wires to the exact locations on the new part and put it back into the proper location. I installed the screws, plugged in the power cord and moved the dryer back to its location for operation. I turned the circuit breaker back on. I failed to mention that I turned that off first of all. I set the dryer control to dry and turned the Dryer Rotary Start Switch to on and it worked immediately. This took about 12 minutes totally from start to finish. Thank you for being there. Sincerely, John Pewters

Switch stopped working
Took the front plate of the top of the dryer and then tried to fit the new switch. Unfortunately as there were no instructions on how to fit it my husband took the switch off the backing plate, and then realised his mistake. So he had to order another one. When that arrived it took all of 5 minutes to fit. It was an expensive and unnecessary mistake.

Start switch did not work
I pulled all the knobs, removed screws and tilted the faceplate, unplugged 3 wires, twisted the old switch to unlock it, twisted the new switch in and guessed where to install the 3 wires because the switch from PartSelect was different. After two attempts at placing the wires on the connectors, the dryer works however it shuts off at a different switch position.

Knob on washer timer would not turn dial also dryer start switch would not work.
Washer - remove 4 screws (phillips)on the back of the panel, slide it sidways slightly and pull forward to release. remove clip behind knob ( kinda like the clip on old car window handles) remove knob and dial. remove 1 nut on timer, rotate timer to release. installation is just as easy, but put clip onto knob first then just push onto dial shaft, it will click when on correct.
Dryer - remove 4 screws (phillips) on back of panel and remove same as washer. dryer switch will have a little cam lock on it just pull it off the plastic retainer and rotate switch. Remove wires one at a time and put on new switch so as not to wire wrong. reverse for re-assembly

Start switch failed
I removed the three screws that hold the front switch cover to the backing plate. I then slid the front cover to the right and pulled it out and forward. I marked all the wires and removed them. Now the front cover is free. starting from the left i removed the knobs and the switches. The switches have a tab on them and they twist out of their socket. The front cover plate was also broken so I replaced it. In the new front cover plate I installed the switches starting from the right. When I got to the start switch I installed a new switch and knob.I then installed the rest of the knobs. then I installed the wires and put the tabs in their place and slid the cover plate to the left and installed the three screws.I then tested it and it worked great .

When you open door & shutt door unit continued to run
Pulled power plug. Removed the "Start/Stop knob" Removed 4 starbit screws across the top of the control panel. Flipped control panel down(toward front of dryer)to expose swithes. Aligned the new switch next to the switch being replaced, removed a wire and re-installed on the new switch. I did for each wire. To remove old switch, rotate counter-clockwise and lift out. Line up slots on new switch to panel slots, push down and rotate clockwise to lock in place. Re assemble panel, line up slot on switch knob to switch shaft and press on.

Soap dried on clean dishes/glasses
with a pair of pvc pipe pliers,I loosened the Spray arm and replaced with the new one.Soap residue had built up inside and would come out on the clean dishes due to a worn plunger from an earlier repair. Also fixed the dryer start switch in 5 min thanks to the info from this site.

Dryer would start when you closed the door during a cycle
All is necessary is remove 3 philip screws, remove the switch knob, lift a tab on the switch, rotate the switch counterclockwise and it was out. Pull wires off switch and immediately put them on the corresponding terminals of the new switch before reversing the above steps. Simple!!!

Starter switch was broke.
The repair would have been extremely easy, if only the part was correct. The original starter switch was discontinued-WE4M402, which had 4 prongs to connect to my dryer's 4 electrical wires. The manufacturer substituted a new part-WE4M519, which has only 3 prongs. PartSelect suggested I contact GE and ask what I should do to properly connect the starter switch. The GE help was totally useless, just repeating that the original part was discontinued and a new substitute part was issued; they could not provide any information as to how to install a switch that previously required 4 electrical wires but now only provides for 3 electrical wires. Of course GE would be happy to schedule a service call and have a repairman come out.
