Thermal Fuse

Everything seems to work on the electric/gas dryer, but would not generate any heat. Did some research and ordered the thermal fuse & thermostat based on that. Replacement was simple and went well, however it did not fix the issue. Should have checked the continuity first as I found the "replaced parts" to be good. Have checked all other possible symptoms except the heating element, which requires addition labor. Overall, partselect portion was as advertised. All parts arrived quickly and were priced fair.

The dryer wouldn’t turn on at all. It was like it was unplugged from the wall. However, fixing it couldn't be easier. I simply removed the back panel, found the fuse, tested it with an Ohmmeter (to determine that this was the part that didn't work), ordered the part from this website, and replaced the part. The part arrived in about two days. The shipping was a little pricey, but overall the whole thing cost me $20 vs. whatever it would cost me to get someone else to repair it. The website helps to identify the problem, and it is helpful to read how other people fixed their problems. It was so easy and the service was so good, I will definitely use this website again and recommend it to others.

My 80 series Kenmore dryer wouldn't start so I looked online for a solution to the problem. One of the sites I found stated that the problem could be as simple as a thermal fuse if other potential issues could be ruled out. I ordered the part on a Monday from PartSelect with standard FedEx ground shipping - stated it could be 3-5 business days. To my amazement, the part arrived the next day! Awesome!!! I watched the video on the PartSelect site to make sure I knew how to fix it, then followed the easy instructions. All I needed to do was use the nutdriver to remove the back cover from the dryer, unplug the two wires going into the thermal fuse, remove the old fuse, and pop the new one in. Then I just plugged the wires into the new fuse, replaced the cover and voila, the dryer worked like a champ! Thank you PartSelect for saving me a needlessly high repair bill!!

Went on this website and found a story that was similar. I ordered the parts which arrived quickly and I replaced the Thermal Fuse and heating element and it was fixed! The whole repair cost me $24.88! Way cheaper than calling a repair man.
Heater thing was part # 3387134
and the fuse was 3392519

I unplugged the appliance and turned off the gas supply. I removed the exhaust hose by loosening the clamp with a nutdriver. I removed the back panel screws with a nutdriver and removed the panel. I pulled the wire connectors off of the thermostat and thermal fuse. I removed both parts using a screwdriver. The thermostat terminals were slightly different, but the new style terminal ends came with the thermostat. I cut the old style terminal ends off of the old wiring with wire cutters. I stripped the wires and crimped new ends on the wires. I replaced the parts and wiring in the reverse order of removal. I replaced the back panel and exhaust hose. I turned on the gas supply and plugged in the dryer. I turned the dryer on to test it. It worked well. No problem!

I am really not sure because my husband did the repair and it took him no time at all. I know he removed the back panel on the dryer, and the 2 parts were in plain site. He took the old off put on the new part. We turned the dryer on and it worked better than ever! This site is the best for home repairs. My husband was a little leary but we didn't want to buy a new dryer and we live in a remote area with no repair people, so for the low cost of these parts it was well worth it! Will diffently use this site again!!!!!!!!!!

after reading your site reviews I bought all 3 thermostat's. It took about 30 minutes (with a coffee break) to change them all out and that saved me $400.00. I popped the lower front pannel off and all three thermostat's were accessable from there. i needed to remove the lent trap and tube which is held on by 2 screws to access the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat. there was a lot of lint trapped in the tube. it was a few screws and some spade connectors. very easy repair. as I said above buy all 3 and it saved me $400.00.

Followed the video .... Also installed another part. which was a kit. the video here showed the third wire being installed. The video on repair clinic did not show where to attach the third wire (orange wire). The Kit and the Thermostat was installed with 25 mins. Thanks

I was reluctant to call a repair service. Typically when an appliance is as old as my dryer (14 years old), service people encourage you to replace, not repair. I had replaced the dryer's motor within the last 5 years and believed my dryer still had life to it. At first, I tried cleaning the lint build up from the dryer cavity and hoses. This worked but only for a couple of days. After reading other successful repair stories on the website, I decided to try replacing the thermal fuse. It was so easy. The part was easily identifiable. It was just a little hard to yank off the connecting wires. Good as new and no service call.

removed the back of the appliance disconnected the vent pipe. Found the problem was a flying squirrel had committed suicide in the vent pipe and as a result had blown the thermal fuse. Tested the fuse to see it was blown with a multi-meter. Ordered the fuse from PartSelect online. fair price shipping was quick. Received the new fuse in 4 days and had the dryer working again in about 10 minutes.

Went on line and determined the problem was the thermal fuse. Removed the rear panel of the dryer, removed the leads from the thermal fuse, hooked them together and started the dryer. That confirmed the problemwas the existing fuse.Ordered the new thermal fuse, installed the fuse, hooked up the wires and it works finel Very simple fix. About a 10 year old dryer.

Well - I'd taken my clothes out of the dryer and put them on the pool table and went upstairs to go to bed. I thought at last moment to go pee first and ran back down stairs. Downstairs I smelled the odor of burning lint. When I looked into the laundry room, my dryer was glowing red hot - Sweet! It seems that the heating element was staying on even though the dryer was off. I looked in the various descriptions of myriad failures of dryers and didn't find that one in the documentation at all. So - I replaced the thermal fuse, the Thermal cut-off and the timer. Alas - the replacement timer had to be replaced because the clock motor was defective. When the second replacement timer arrived, it was quickly installed. Long story short - if the timer is in any play mode, the heating element stay on full blast - not low, not medium, but full on chub - and this is whether the fan or tumbler are on or not, door open or not. And so the mystery anomaly remains un-repaired, unresolved and perhaps even, undiagnosed. Note - the new Thermal Cut Off does not cut off anything even when it cookin red hot. Strange.

Just removed the back panel with nut driver . Located the parts and replaced one at a t-ime. I replaced all the parts that I order , so I really can't say which part fixed it. But working good now.

I researched the probable cause online with Google, found it to be a Thermal Fuse located within the Hotair return duct of the Dryer. A simple continuity check is all it takes to determine if the Thermal fuse was Blown. The Dryer Seal was a little trikier but not too hard either, a little glue afte cleaning the surfaces with Acetone. PartsSelect came through with the right parts at the right price! I watched the video or I would have likley just called a repair man. It took longer to clean behind the dryer than to install the new thermal fuse. After taking the back off the dryer is was as simple as changing a fuse. Dryer works like new for about $20 bucks and we avoided the hasle of getting a repair man, especially since we live in the country.
