Direct Drive Water Pump

It was really simple. All I had to do was take the outside body off of the washer & undo the clamps & take the old water pump off & put the new one on & put the clamps back on & put the body back on. It was easy & a whole lot cheaper than buying a new washer. Thanks for being there.

I have a 5 and a half year old Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II washer and water started leaking out the bottom of the machine and the top part of the agitator was not turning. Of course the extended warranty had just expired and I was not expecting these types of problems to happen to a Whirlpool Gold Appliance that is just a little over 5 years old. At any rate, I am not a handy man and was ready to order a new washing machine, probably a totally different brand and throw this old Whirlpool out on the street, but I stumbled upon this site and some online videos that made repairing a washer seem easy and it inspired me to try and fix it myself for a change. I had followed the water pump repair instructional video on the partselect.com website. The only difference is my washer had two screws in the back of the console to be unscrewed first before I could flip the console up with the putty knife. Next, I took the screw driver and took off the clips and opened the unit and used the pliers just like in the video to clamp the hoses, flip the clips up and remove the old water pump and slide the new water pump on, then clamped the hoses on the new water pump, put the clips back over the water pump and I put the machine back together in 45 minutes. No more leaking from the bottom of the washer. Then, I used an 11mm extension socket wrench to unscrew the top agitator. I changed the agitator barrier seal that was busted and the directional Agitator Cogs aka (Dog Ears) in the agitator that took about 25 minutes and I was done, just plop out the old ones and put the new ones in facing the same directon. The old Dog Ears were worn down and that is why it was not agitating. Now the machine agitates the clothes and the top part of the agitator is not just sitting in one spot anymore. It was the best $40 bucks I spent on all the parts and it saved me the cost of a brand new washer and I still have my matching set the Whirlpool Gold Washer and Whirlpool Gold Dryer. There are a lot of free how-to type videos online that can show anyone how to repair a Whirlpool or any other brand washer because they are all basically similar under the hood if you have the old top load washer. If I can do it, then anyone can. Good Luck!!!

Got the part in two days! After watching the installation video, i figured i could take the pump off without removing the complete washer panel. Tipped washer on to back and there was the old pump staring at me. Disconnected the two hose clamps with pliers (easy). Hardest part was removing old pump due to crud and rust. Removed pump clamps and forced it off with end of screwdriver alternating both sides. This is why the video shows panel removal. Would have been much easier i think! I used fine sandpaper to get the shaft cleaned up and put a few drops of liquid hand soap into opening of new pump. Lined up the pumped with shaft and it slid right on. Reattached hoses and pump clamps and done!! NO more leak!! Really easy repair - about 15 minutes total.

It was really easy.I tilted washer and removed the clamps holding on the drain hoses and clips holding the water pump and reinstalled the new one.

I received the water pump. (really quick by the way)
I propped the front of the washer up, removed the old pump and installed the new pump. Ran and test. Piece of cake. I wish I had a better story. Sorry.

It only took using common sense.

Tipped washer for access to pump. Disconnect hoses. Snap spring clips off of pump. Remove pump from motor shaft. Scotch-Brite shaft, push new pump onto shaft. Reconnect hoses. And your done

removed water lines from back of washer. tilted washer to get access to the pump/ removed 2 hoses at pump and removed to snap clips attaching the pump. easiest repair i ever did. washer works fine now.

Tilt machine on its side,snap off the two retaining straps and remove the pump and sanded the shaft on the electric drive motor to remove rust ,Install new pump and retaining straps and unit now running great.

Unplugged appliance and turned off water supply.
1. Gained access to and removed 2 screws that secure control panel.
2. Lifted control panel out of the way.
3. Removed housing retaining clips and removed housing.
4. Removed both inlet water pipes at rear of washer. Unplugged electrical connections from valve. Unscrewed screw from valve body and lifted valve up and out.
5. Fitted new valve in reverse order.
To replace drain pump first ensured all water was drained from washer ;
1. Lifted retaining clips from old pump and twisted clips by 90* to remove. Slid pump unit forward and clear from drive motor.
2. Retracted hose clips using an adjustable pliers and removed both pipes catching any remaining water in a bucket.
3. Fit new pump in reverse order making sure that the motor shaft aligned up correctly with the pump coupler.
4. Replaced appliance housing, control panel, water pipes, plugged back into mains and turned on the water supply. Ran a test to make sure both hot and cold water solenoid valves were working and checked for water leak at the drain pump.

The repair was easy. Disconnected the water and drain lines. Tipped the washer on its back and used pliers to remove the clamps holding the drain lines. The pump was replaced and reattached to the drain lines.

I pulled washing machine away from the wall . Unplugged unit. Turned off water and disconnected hot and cold water line. Laid washing machine on its side. Disconnected inlet and outlet lines from pump using a pair of pliers to squeeze hose clamps to enable removal of hoses. FLASHLIGHT is needed to view area. Pop off spring clips with a small screw driver. It's a little difficult getting hand back to remove back spring clip. Water pump has fitted stand offs that let the pump be installed and removed very easily and also enables proper installation orientation. Make sure you have a pair of gloves on to avoid sheet metal cuts during removal and installation.

rolled washer up on its back used pliers to slide 2 hose clamps back on the hoses. pulled both hoses off pump. There are 2 metal type latches holding pump in place. Remove those by prying off with a screwdriver then you can remove the pump by lifting it off the motor shaft. Then install new pump on shaft making sure to align the square shoulders on pump shaft with water pump slots. Then just reverse the removal process hook water up and test to make sure no leaks. My pump had been dropped sometime between the factory and my getting it so I had to glue it back together where it had separated. Easier to fix than to send it back for replacement.
