Agitator Repair Kit

i took 7/16 socket at top of agitator,removed bolt,removed agitator & assembled new one,to assemble,reverse of disasemble,very easy

Removed agitator with socket wrench, removed worn out parts, replaced with new parts, reinstalled agitator, tested washer...fixed.

Took old agitator apart. Seen worn parts inside. Found parts select online. Website found my parts I needed. Fed-Ex had them to me the next day. Installed new parts. Website even had a nice video on how to install them. very easy!

Followed the directions provided. Took less than 15 minutes and the washer works like new.

I noticed the washer wasn't agitating the load any longer. So took the agitator assembly apart and noticed that the dogs were striped and wasn't letting that agitator work properly. Went to this web sight and ordered the replacement part. When it came i went and installed it that minute. I have never attempted to work on any appliance prior to this. The instructions were well written and I was able to have my washer back up in running with in 10 minutes. It saved me having to go out and buy a new washer dryer set. As per the instructions, I pried off the cover and removed the inside piece. Then, using the socket set and extension bar, I loosened the retaining bolt. I lifted the whole upper part of the agitator and removed the inner working (those parts that the kit replaced). I broke off the tabs as instructed.
The instructions mentioned a specific grease (which I didn't have and was not aware of when I ordered the repair kit), but a search on the Internet indicated that many people put the washer back together without the grease.
The new parts are not an exact match for the replaced parts, but it was easy to follow the directions to build the new section. Putting the whole thing together again was easy.

I took the liquid detergent cup off.
Took the inner cap out.
Removed the 7/16in. bolt out with a socket and a ratchet with an extension.
I cleaned all parts.
Replaced the parts.
Works Great.

1. Removed the liquid detergent receptacle from top part of upper half of agitator.

2. Pulled up on the ears of the plastic cap (at the bottom of what's left after removing the liquid receptacle) to expose the nut. Turned nut counter-clockwise with socket set while preventing lower half of agitator from turning.

3.Once nut was totally unscrewed pulled up entire agitator- works out of washing machine, then placed agitator on floor, placed my feet on lower part of agitator while pulling up on upper half of agitator and the 2 sections separated, as well as the small parts of agitator.


4. I remounted the upper half of the agitator to the lower half outside of the washing machine, but it could probably also be done by first installing the lower half of the agitator into the machine and then mounting the upper half onto the lower half.

5. I re-screwed the bolt clock-wise with one hand while preventing the lower half of the agitator from turning.

I had previously disassembled the agitator assembly so all that I needed to do was assemble the repair kit and reassemble the agitator. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Having previously disassembled the parts helped to know how to reassemble the new parts. I did have a moment of frustration trying to get the bolt that holds the assembly together to line up with the agitator shaft. Finally got that solved by holding it in place with the socket wrench before placing the agitator assembly on the shaft. After reassembling the agitator, everything worked great. I figure I saved over $100.00 buying the parts and doing the job myself.

I can't really add anything to what others have said as far as taking it apart and putting it together. I'll just say that with a socket wrench, a long extension and just a little mechanical aptitude you can have this done in well under 30 minutes. I imagine it would be a 150-200 dollars to call someone in to see whats wrong. Thanks PartSelect!

Pulled off the cover on the adgitator then removed the cap inside the adgitator and the one 7/16 bolt holding on the adgitator. Pulled the adgitator top off the base and removed the drive section with the 4 fingers that engaged with the adgitator. Installed the new assembly, put the bolt back in and I was done.
My wifes 19 year old Kitchenaid washer now works like new and all of that for less then $20.00

Removed fabric softener dispenser. Removed the one bolt holding the agitator in place and pulled the unit out of the washer. Followed the instructions packed with the kit and then put the agitator back in place. Very easy repair. The "dogs" were worn from years of use. I probably could have just replaced the 4 "dogs" as the other parts showed no wear. However, the kit is a bargain and now the unit is as good as new. I especially like the fact that the parts were factory parts and not generic.

Pop off the upper part of the agitator (just grip firmly and yank straight up). Pull out the sealing cap down inside the opening you've just exposed, and that reveals the bolt. Using a long extension on a socket wrench remove the bolt. Now you can remove the part with the cam "dogs" on it.

The first kit I got only had one of the 4 cams, so I had to contact customer service for replacements. They came quickly.

You need to pull out the agitator itself to put in some "thrust ring" thingy. It just drops on. There are also a couple of plastic tags on the agitator itself that have to be snapped off (they are leftovers from assembly and not actually part of the mechanism) with pliers to allow the main cam assembly to seat. The instructions show this clearly.

Check to be sure the dogs only allow one way rotation, screw the bolt back in, replace the sealing cap and snap on the top and you're done.

My Dad's the mechanical one, so I asked him to look in my washer to see why the spinner was just kinda jiggling back and forth and not turning and agitating the clothes like it's supposed to. He tried screwing off the plastic cap, but found that it just pops off either with some strong fingernails or a slot screwdriver. Looking down the cylinder there is a cap that I had to pull out with some pliers. Looking at the agitator, we could see that there were no prongs(found out they are called "dogs") that could grab the teeth in the cylinder. There was worn away. I found the agitator kit on here and undid the one screw with a socket wrench and pulled out the whole spinner. My fiance grabbed the base of it and I pulled the upper cylinder part off. The instructions were basically just a picture and how it all fit together. The problem I had was the dogs kept falling off, which was fixed by putting a plastic piece (provided) that wasn't on the schematics. It slid all into place, put the screw back in and the machine is working great.

I just removed the bolt holding the agitator on and replaced the dogs and gaskets. It was very easy, anyone could do it.
