Ice maker and water dispenser would not work due to switch clamps being broken off the control plate
remove the front cover. everything else is a quick disconnect type of connection. Nothing to it! I would remove the cover and check these connections anytime the dispenser does not work. Look for broken or disconnected switches. This reapir took me a couple of minutes whereas the repair guy wanted almost 200 bucks to do this job. Parts ran around 30 with shipping.

Ice dispenser auger would not rotate and drop ice
First, I replaced the auger motor at a cost of $87.00. That job took about 15 minutes and was very easy, but it still didn't work. So, I took off the front panel that covered the ice/water dispenser controls and some white plastic parts rained down out of it. I then discovered the problem was the mounting points that held the ice dispenser switch in place. The $13.00 white control bracket fixed the problem. Should have checked this first, as I later learned that the motors rarely go bad.

Broken bracket would not dispense water
First I removed the face plate from the dispenser, then removed two screws holding the bracket in place. All of the wiring was held in place and I did not have to remove any of the switches from the wires. I then removed the stationary switch from the ice side and removed the entire bracket. I then put the new bracket in place and installed the switches and wiring harness. It took less than 10 minutes to install.

Thru the door water stopped working
I removed the metal strip on the side of the freezer door then slid out the wood panels. removing one Z bar allowed the plastic cover panel to come off without bending the plastic. Then just replace the control bracket by removing two screws and installing the micro switches as before. The small plastic "fingers" break after use and you replace the entire plastic bracket. Very easy ...

Water dispenser on door stopped working.
Replaced the entire part which dispenses water and ice. Good as new. Cost to repair it ourselves less than $20 for postage and part. Sure beats the $85 service charge with an additional charge for the part needed, the repairman wanted to come out and fix it.

The ice dispenser would not work
I pulled the cover off the icemaker and water dispenser in the front door. Unplugged the wires, pulled out the old control bracket, put the new one in, reconnected the wires, put the cover back on. Everything works fine now. All it was was a broken piece of plastic that would not trigger the switch to run the ice dispenser.

Water would not dispense
Thanks to the support on this site, I diagnosed and fixed the problem, saving at least $150 on a service call. The manufacturer's design of this Control Bracket is so cheap. The small plastic "axel" holding the micro switch broke after about 7 years of use. It is made of thin plastic about the size of a toothpick. Gently pry off the front cover by inserting a screw driver in the slots at the bottom. Take your time and apply gentle pressure. The cover will pop out. Next, take off the micro switches and spacers connected to the old Control bracket. You will probably see a broken plastic shaft/axel that was causing the problem. Pay attention to where the parts come from, because the will need to go back in the same place on the new bracket. It would be helpful to have 3 hands for this job, but I got it done by being patient and taking my time. This site is a fantastic resource. Thanks!

Ice & water dispenser stopped working
The control bracket that holds the switches to dispense the water and ice broke. I live in Florida I can't live without the ice dispenser and filtered water. I was informed by Whirlpool that they did not sell the idividual parts and that I would need to buy a new door for $700. Fustrated I searched the internet and PartSelect had exactly what I needed and $22 later I had my water and ice back. Simple to install less than 10 minutes, excelent schematics. The part was delivered within 1 day, I wish I knew about PartSelect earlier I would have never gone thru the aggravation of 5 days without ice and water.

Water not dispensing
found manuel online to trouble shoot once I took the front panel off I could see the sesor for the water side had two broken pegs that held it in place. We simply unplugged the wires and popped out the bracket which is all one piece for both ice and water. Put new one in and reconnected plugs easy and simple. Saved a huge bill from a repair man
