Worn down agitator directional cogs
Looking at the Whirlpool web page for this model number it was easy to order 1. agitator directional cogs; 2. Inner cap seal and 3. washer for agitator bolt; After you remove agitator cap barrier you see agitator bolt that you need to remove (it's a little tricky) and the rest you do by intuition. I am not an repairman but looking at the whirlpool web for this model it was incredibly easy. Before repair the agitator upper part was not moving at all. Professional repair estimation was $100.

Upper part of agitator would not turn
I didn't fix it, my husband did. It had to be simple because it didn't take any time or much effort at all.
He wanted to call a repairman but I went on line, found Parts Select and ordered the kit.

Water coming into washer slowly. Agitator not pulling close down and would move both directions.
Unpluged washer and turn off water supply to washer.Used channel locks to take hoses off back of washer. Then unscrew to screws in top panel and then flip it back. Take screw driver and pop out the two clips and unplug lid switch. Now you can pull off front section of your washer. Use your socket to remove the two nuts on back panel and unpluged the hot and cold plugs.Use channel locks to pull back of hose clamp. You may need to put mounting plate on the back of the inlet valve. Put back in reverse order. Good Luck Mark N. of North Port FL
