Water valve leaked

Diagnosis: I removed the nuts holding on the panel at the back of the refrigerator and saw water leaking from the water valve.

Repair: I guided my 10 year old daughter through the actual replacement.

Using a nut driver, unscrew the single nut holding the value to the frame of the refigerator.

Push up the rings around each water tube to release the tubes from the value. Using a wrench, unscrew the supply line.

Put dab of plumbers teflon on the threads.

Reverse all the above:
Screw in supply line, tighten with wrench.
Push water lines for icemaker and chilled water into value assembly.
Position valve and screw in het nut that attaches it to the frame.
Replace rear cover plate and screw in the hex nuts.

No fresh water from door dispenser. Ice maker ok

Unplugged the unit and turned off the water line to the refrigerator. Removed the six screws holding the back cover. Removed the screw holding the outlet water valve. Unplugged both electrical connectors. Unscrewed the water supply line and cut the ice maker and fresh water outlet lines from the valve. inserted the fresh water and ice maker lines into the correct valve and connected the supply line to the inlet. Connected the electrical lines and remounted the Valve. Turned the water on and checked for leaks. Remounted the Valve and installed the back cover. Plugged the fridge in and ran the front fill until water came out (1:00 minute). Cleaned up and pushed unit back into cabinet.

Water dispenser stopped working

Changed out the double outlet valve which was pretty easy, after getting the right one, had the wrong part number for the first valve, not PartSelects fault, but still no water. Before changing valve, ice maker stopped making ice, figured the valve went bad on both points. After changing valve, got ice but still no water. Now what? Pulled the front cover off the freezer door where you get ice and water and found the bracket, } that holds the micro switch that works the water valve broken and the switch dangling. I screwed the switch back to the spacer between it and the frame and glued the spacer to the frame with plastic crazy glue.Got water!

My refrigerator/freezer had several problems; both frig and freezer wasn't cooler properly, some days everything froze. The ice maker stopped making ice and water was leaking in the freezer.

I first called a GE repairperson. The diagnose the problem and told me the main control board was shot and the double outlet water valve needed replaced. The estimate for both parts and repairs was $850.00. I thought the estimate was high so I did some research on-line and discovered I could purchase the parts myself. When I researched the part, a short video popped up explaining how to install the part. I watched both video's and did exactly what the guy in the video said and was able to repair my refrigerator/freezer myself. The total cost for both parts was $200.00, I save $650!!! Amazing. I ordered the part on Saturday, and was told it would take a week to 10 days to receive the part and the part showed up on my door steep the following Tuesday. I'll never call a repairmen first again. I'll research the issue through partselect.com and try to fix the problem myself. I am not technologically or mechanically sauvy and have spent thousands on repair bills in the past, no more will I do that.

No water from the door

After gaining access to the back of the refrigerator. I shut off the water valve and pulled the electrical power plug. I removed 6 screws from the access panel. I then removed 1 screw holding the water valve. I disconnected the electrical connectors. Disconnected the water inlet tubing with an adjustable wrench. I removed the water to the door and water to the ice maker by pushing in on the collar which released the tubing. I discarded the old valve and installed it in reverse order. Did not fix the problem. My next guess is the control module.

CustomerJOHN from FARMINGTON NM

No water from dispenser

I changed the filter first as this has happened before when the filter got too old. Still did not work, so ordered the double outlet water valve as the ice dispenser was working. The part was easy to install with the video directions. However, water still did not dispense. Felt the water coil behind the crisper in the refrigerator and it seemed kind of hard. I wondered if it was frozen. Took a hair dryer to it for about 45 seconds and then tried the water again. Voila' This time it worked. Apparently it WAS frozen. I may have not needed to change the filter or water valve, but everything is working fine so I will leave well enough alone.
