This water valve and bracket assembly comes with both the primary and secondary valve. This is a redesign from the original, but will still work and function the same. Contains a new quick connect style, just cut off old plastic nuts from tubing and push them into the valve.
NOTE: If original wiring harness doesn't work, then you must order is separately.
This part works with the following brands: GE, Hotpoint & Kenmore.
This part fixes the following symptoms:
This part has one port and 2 solenoids and comes with a mounting bracket. The water valve is a solenoid-operated switch located at the bottom of the refrigerator. When it is energized by electrical power, water is released from the supply line through the water valve and into the compact icemaker mold.
*Please note, this part is a substitute from the original. The valve is a new quick connect. No nuts or connectors are needed, just cut the old nuts off of the tubing and gently push them into the valve.
1) Shut off water source.2) Unplug Refrigerator.3) Remove screws on bottom rear panel.4) Disconnect water connection at valve assembly.5) Remove single screw holding valve assembly.6) Transfer electrical connections from old valve to new.7) Transfer all water connections from old valve to new. Push in ring to release tubing.8) Replace rear panel. Reconnect water source. Plug in refrigerator. Turn on water source.

I unplugged the refrigerator and removed the black fiberboard panel at the back of the unit. I turned off the water at the wall and disconnected the copper water line from the unit. One bolt holds the valve assembly in place. Once the bolt is removed you simply pull the unit out of the refrigerator. I took the time to mark all electrical connections and water lines (1, 2, 3, etc.) and wrote the corresponding numbers on the new valve unit. I unplugged the electrical connections and removed all water lines by gently squeezing them with the pliers and pulling them out of the old valve. After everything was disconnected I connected the new valve. The numbering system made it easy to know exactly which plug/line went where and it was reconnected in less than 2 mins. I slid the unit back, replaced the single bolt holding the unit, reconnected the main copper water line, turned it on, placed the fiberboard back in place and was done. We had an estimate from a refrigerator repairman of $275 to change this valve, parts & labor. We thought it was ridiculously high and decided to attempt the repair ourselves. Best decision we ever made and saved a fortune.This is definitely an easy fix. Go for it!
First, I moved the refrigerator out from the wall, unplugged from the electrical outlet, disconnected the copper tubing to the refrigerator, removed screws holding the cardboard backing, removed the nuts holding the assembly to the refrigerator and pulled it out. At that point, I disconnected the tubing units and wiring connectors from the assembly one by one attaching to the new assembly as I went. However, this was not possible in the case of two wiring connectors. Evidently, the replacement part was made differently than the original. I had to rewire the replacement part as it allowed and then put the reconnected assembly back in place. I then placed the cardboard panel and reattached the copper tubing. Everything is working and no more leaks!
1. Unplugged fridge & Removed bottom left black access panel2. Removed 1 screw with nutdriver which was holding the valve/bracket assembly in place3. Pulled out valve assembly and disconnected electrical connector.4. Pushed in retaining rings around each of the water lines and pulled water lines out5. Replaced cracked water lines by cutting off bad section. Connected new 1.4" &5/16" OD tubing using quick connect couplers (ACE hardware).6. Insert water lines into new valve assembly7. Connect electrical connector to new assembly8. Installed valve assembly back into fridge and put the single screw back in.9. Put the back panel back on10. Plugged fridge back in.
The problem of an icing dispenser and water leaks under the refrigerator is usually a valve problem. On this particular model there are two water valve solenoids. On investigation of the valve, unplug the refrigerator and turn off the water suppply valve FIRST.The valve was leaking from the 5/16" quick-connection on the secondary solenoid, probably an o-ring failure. I replaced the entire valve assembly which involves sequentially reinserting the water hoses into the proper openings and replacing the wire harness.I re-ordered another secondary valve and installed it on the old valve assembly as a spare. The 5/16" quick--connect has a slight variation from the original and appears to be an upgrade. Once finished, plug in the refrigerator and turn on the water supply, check for leaks and dispenser function-should be fine.

it was simple just removed the water lines one at a time and installed it into the new valve assembly it was simple and easy and in 15 min i had it all working again!!!
Turned water off to icemaker/dispenser removed cardboard back and removed the water supply line. Removed screws that held water valve in place and disconnected electrial plugs from valve. Replaced new valve and bracket and reversed steps of removal.
Turned off saddle value in basement which is the water supply for fridge. after pulling the refrigerator away from wall, I used a nut driver to take off back cardboard panel. next I pulled the entire (2 values conneted by bracket) assembly out after unscrewing 1 screw. I then used a wrench to disconnect copper tubing water supply. Have a towel to collect and dry and water from tubing which may come out. Next I very easily pulled out 3 plastic tubes which supply water and ice machine. Assembly is now free. Took the new assembly and added the plastic tubes making sure they went back to same value holes. Reconnected copper tubing (water supply)with wrench. Gently pushed assembly back into fridge compartment and reattached the 1 screw. Replaced cardboard panels with nutdriver. Pushed fridge back in. Went downstairs and turned water supply back on. Success. no drip, water supply good and ice was being made again. Time elasped... approximately 10 minutes. And my repair company wanted to charge me $395 plus tax. yeah, whatever. very easy task. do not be intimidated
I noticed that the flexible water line going into the ice maker did not have any water in it. (This is one of the 3 flexible hose taped to the back of the refrigerator), I located the valve it was connected to, removed it - one small screw and a couple of water lines - make sure to shut the water supply first --- Then I did a search for "refrigerator parts" on the Internet. After clicking on the Part Select site, I searched for the water valve assembly that resembled the one on my Kenmore and ordered it. It was supposed to take 3-5 days to arrive, but the part was actually delivered 2 days later, at no additional cost to me. I replaced the part and approximately 3 hours later the ice maker was producing ice. By the way, ordering through a local parts store would have been more expensive and taken much longer to arrive. I am extremely impressed with the promptness and customer service offered by Part Select.
turned off water supply removed part of back cover and removed the screw that holds valve body. unpluged unit and removed color coded lines and pluged them into new unit. snaped in the electrical fitting and that was about it. Just replace the cover after you hook up water line and fasten the unit in place. works great now, no water on floor.
I am very handy and figured it out by myself. I installed the water valve - bracket assembly and control board within an hour and the dispenser works fine. I recommend that you all make installation links on line more user friendly. Thanks.J M Joly, MD
