Door hinge shims worn out
The PartSelect web site was able to direct me right to my GE double door frig using the model number. I called in to order the parts that were worn out with some operator assistance finding out all parts were available to my surprise. I received the parts in just a few days. I blocked the door up with some scrap lumber allowing me to take the old hinge off being careful to watch where the old parts were located. I reassembled the new hinge. It all took about 30 minutes and about $40. If I would have called a service repairman it would have easily cost me $100 and with a lot less satisfaction. This is the second time I have used PartSelect with similar results.

Fridg fresh food door dropped on hinge side
I used a 5" tall can of peaches to hold up the door while I removed the screws on hinge & door stop. I removed the shims & cam riser on the door . I then removed the hinge & used the dremel tool to cut the rivet off . I used a bolt ,nut & lock washer in place of the rivet. Re- installed the cams & shims ,added a little lube on the cams & the hinge . Everything worked good . I would say it was an easy repair. Jerry Johnson

Refrigerator door made noise when opening. Door did not close automatically. Black plastic pieces were on the floor.
I learned from previous published repair stories. I was able to make the repair without taking the door off. I first took the food and beverages off the door to reduce weight. Next, I supported the bottom of the door with a piece of 2x4 wood and shims to take the weight when I removed the hinge. I only needed a socket set to remove the old hinge and install the new one. I am glad that the hinge kit came with both the hinge and mating cam because both parts were broken. I also bought the shims because pieces from the old parts were broken on the floor. The job went easy and the door closes perfectly now.
