This light bulb is a 40 watt, 130-volt clear appliance light bulb that is manufactured to fit microwaves with small-base light bulb sockets. The light bulb illuminates the inside of the microwave while the microwave is running. You may need to replace this part if the existing one is burnt-out or broken. If the existing light bulb is broken, disconnect power to microwave and remove the bulb base with a pair of needle nose pliers. This is a common wear item, so it is recommended to order a spare. These light bulbs are sold individually.
This part works with the following brands: GE, Hotpoint & Kenmore.
This is a light bulb socket that is manufactured to fit a microwave appliance. The socket is meant to fit small-base light bulbs. The light bulb is not included with this part, so consider ordering the light bulb if necessary. You may need to replace this part if the existing socket is broken, cracked, or if light bulb is not turning on, and a new light bulb does not work. This is an electrical part so please be sure to disconnect power to your appliance before repair.

I used the internet and your directions to complete the repair. It was easy!
removed the bottom plate from microwave and replaced parts
Simply removed screw, pulled down light holder, unfoled the metal tabs, took out the broken pieces and replaced the glass lens and light bulb.
My microwave is built in above the stove which provides lighting and fans for my stove. The glass lens cover for the lighting was cracked in several places and the light bulbs had burned out. I taped the glass lens for removal so it didn't break apart due to the cracks Removed the one screw. .Both light bulbs broke away from the base sockets as I tried to unscrew them. I used electrical tape wrapping in reverse on a lightbulb (socket end) so it was sticky for a grip on the base, shoved it in the sockets and was unable to unscrew the broke off bases. So it was very successful and no repair man was needed.
Last week I removed the glass cover that was held in by one screw and removed the burnt out light bulb. I ordered the bulb and left the glass cover off until the bulb arrived. I had to wait until this evening to put the glass cover back on and fasten the screw because I have a window right next to the oven and the sun streaming in made it too difficult for me to see how to put the glass back in and replace the screw.
ordered 2 new sockets and bulbs easy replacement great service from this site
thank you for the video--very clear, responsible, applicable although the illustration was not exactly of our kind of light. the bulb was exactly like the one Hotpoint used in its microwave made in 1989! I will come back to you for parts in the future. (You have the model # from my original order.)
I was very surprised to find that the parts for repair were still available after more than 10 years use. I replaced the bulb light sockets because they had become brittle after 10 years of use. I replaced the wiring harness because it had become discolored at the light socket connection end. The harness still worked but I feel safer having a new one. I also found the GE parts site very easy to navigate and order parts from. Replacement parts were installed by using only a philips head screwdriver and removing/reinstalling 14 screws.
Replaced the sockets, lens and bulbs. The first time the new bulb was touching the lens and the heat broke the lens and burnt out the bulb. The second time I adjusted the socket so that the bulb does not touch the lens.Impressed by how quickly the parts arrived after the order was submitted. Two days.Thank you.
pluged wires back on ,placed lamp holder and bulb back and replaced screws
Removed difuser (one screw), removed old bulb, screwed in new bulb, replaced difuser.
Simple. The parts came instantly. The glass was too big so I had it cut to size. I unscrewed the fixture with a screw driver replaced the bulb and slipped the glass cover into the frame and screwed the whole assembly in.
took out several screws dropped down the panel under the microwave and unscrewed the bulb and put the new one in. It was a simple job.
Just unscrewed the screw holding the lens, unscrewed the bulb and put the new bulb in. Simple
