The surface element, also known as the coil surface element, transfers heat to the area on top of range. The element is 8 inches in diameter. If your surface element does not heat, over heats, or heats inconsistently, replacing this part can be the solution to your issue. To determine whether the element is defective, use a multimeter to test it. Before installing the new element, make sure the drip bowl is properly aligned with the notch of the pan. Insert the new element into the reciprocal at a 40 degree angle. Refer to the instructions provided by the manufacturer for more guidance.
This part works with the following brands: GE, Hotpoint & Kenmore.
This part fixes the following symptoms:
If you notice that your surface element will not heat properly, you may need to replace it. This surface element is 6 inches in diameter and 240V. It is a Y-frame surface burner element with five turns and a metallic center medallion. When completing this repair, if you notice any signs of corrosion or overheating on the terminal, you may want to consider replacing the terminal block as well as the surface element. Many of our customers have rated this repair as easy. To complete this repair, simply tilt the old element up and remove it, and then replace it with your new one.
This was about the simplest fix I've ever done. Just pulled off the old surface elements & burner bowls, wiped down the range top, and put in the new parts. Perfect fit. No problems at all. $$ well spent. ParsSelect shipped quickly, and they arrived well packaged. A+ experience all around. Thanks PartSelect. JA, San Ramon, CA

Removed by slightly wiggling out of the coupling. No tools needed, seriously, (and I'm a contractor). Basically, pull out and snap back in.
I removed old 8" surface element and terminal block. Some of old wiring had to be cut off because of harding/cracking of old wiring. Stove was 23 years old and this burner was the most frequently used one. I soldered the new and remaining old wires together. I used the shirnk wrap that came with the terminal block to cover the solder joint. I screwed the new terminal block (one screw holds it in place - used same screw from old terminal block that was removed). I finished by inserting the new surface element. Everything works fine. In the next week or two after we use it a while, I will check wiring again to make sure there are no changes. You need to be very careful as it gets very hot under the burner.
So easy, first I turned off the main switch to the electric. Unscrewed old bake element and screwed in the new one. Worked like a charm. We also bought from Part Select new burners and drip pans. Can't believe how good it looks. I placed my order on a Sunday and received it on Tuesday!! 2 days. Awesome website...Have told everyone about it..THANK YOU PART SELECT..
Unpluged range. Removed back cover to access the infinite switches . removed old burner and drip pan. removed terminal block and retaining screw on cooktop. removed terminal block wiring from infinite switch taking care to mind were the wires came from. Install new terminal block and reattached to cooktop . installed new 8" burner and drip pan reinstalled back panel and plug in electrical to unit . tested burner . replaced stove after verifying burner worked
There was nothing to it...I unplugged the Sufrace Elements from thier bases, removed the Drip Bowls, replaced the Drip Bowls and then plugged the Surface Elements back in to thier bases. The entire process could not have taken more than two minutes.
My husband removed all the old terminal block and element, and put the new one in. It was very easy. Thank you for the instructions which were included.
The burners were not level and would heat more on one side than the other. Since the range was 21 years old and would cost a lot to replace, I decided to replace the burners andtreat myself to new drip bowls. I Googled and got the information on the range including part numbers. I ordered them and am very happy. It was very easy to replace the old ones. Only problem the large drip bowl was dented but on sending an email to compamy, a new one is being sent. I am very happy at the ease since I am a retired widow of 76 years old. It pays some time to take care of the old and do a little reapair instead of spending a lot of money on relacement when every thing else is in excellent condition. Thanks for making this a very easy experience.
All it took to repair was to plug in the new heating elements. The REAL story is the difference in price. I went to a parts center first and the two elements were going to cost me $115! I got them at PartSelect for half the price. And they came in the same sealed GE parts bag that Sears had. Can't beat a good thing!
The cause of the problem was that I had installed a generic replacement recepticle earlier. Parts Select had the correct part. It came with handy wire nuts to help connect to range wires to the recepticle wires.
Removed old surface burners and replaced them by plugging in the new surface burners. Now they work GREAT! Parts ordered and received with-in 3 business days. Fed EX delivered parts in good order very quickly. We recommend PartSelect.com
Removed existing surface element and replaced with new element.P.S.Part Select service was excellent.
Removed 4 screws holding the control panel removed the receptacle wires removed the screw holding the receptacle in place. Inserted the new receptacle screwed it in inserted the the wires to control knob. Screwed the control panel in place. Replaced 2 burners and 2 elements with in a half hour. Simple. Received the parts with in a few days. Will order from here for now on. Before we ordered looked for parts everywhere could not find them. Thanks
Because of the superb pics and descriptions on the Part Select site, I was able (with NO range model number) to order the correct range element for beloved son's stove. He plugged it in in 3 seconds, works great !
I unplugged each element from the terminal it was plugged into and then plugged the new element in. I also replace the drip pans and trim rings while I was at it.
