Drain Pump with Pulley

Turned it over to my 35-year old son who removed pump and pulley assembly and the old drive belt, then simply replaced with new assembly and belt from PartSelect! Could not have been easier - from my viewpoint.

Raised washer. Identified problem. Removed from panel, gaining access to drain pump. Removed hoses, replaced pump. NOTE: I used blue Loctite on pump mounting bolts. Reinstalled from panel, lowered washer, cleaned drum. Ran one (1) cycle with hot water and bleach ONLY.

I first opoen the front panel of the washer. That was a bit tricky. Had to slide a thin blade between the top of the washer and the front panel, pushed in to release the "clamp" and gently raise the top, it hinges on the back.
The rest was undoing three bolts, refit the new pump and put the belt back on.
The part cost me less then $65.00.
The repair estimate by the local repair man was $ 250.00.
I am very happy.

After just over ten years of use (purchased in early 2001), my Maytag Atlantis started making an awful noise during the spin cycle. The noise was very loud and sounded like metal grating on metal. Looking through posts on partselect.com, I identified the problem as the drain pump and pulley. Looking under the washer I could see that where the pulley connected to the drain pump the metal was starting to fall apart. I ordered the drain pump with pulley and a washer belt. The belt didn't look overly worn, but I figured now was a good time to replace it. The parts arrived within a couple days, faster than I expected. I opened the top of the washer by inserting a putty knife about an inch in on each side to release the top which then easily clam-shells back. I removed the front panel by removing two screws in each corner. Using a few blocks of wood, I propped the washer up in the front so I could remove the drive belt. The motor is spring-loaded and is easily moved to allow for belt removal. Then I removed the two tubes that connect to the drain pump. The drain pump was quickly removed from the washer; only three nuts hold it in place. The new pump/pulley went back into place using the same three nuts. After reconnected the two tubes to the pump, I installed the new drive belt. I put the front panel back on, and seated the top back in place. Anxiously I watched and listened as the washer cycled through a load. To my relief, the problem was fixed. All told, it probably took about 15 minutes to make the repair, and with any luck I’ll get another ten years out of this washer.

Unplugged electrical plug. Disconnected water and drain hoses. Turned washer on front side. Removed old belt from bottom of washer. Removed pump access panel. Removed old pump. Installed new pump. Torqued pump mounting screws 1/4 turn with socket wrench. Installed new belt. Put on pump access panel. Hand tested motion of belt and pulleys for smooth travel. Put drain hose on. Turned washer in the upright position. Reconnected water hoses. Washer works like new.

BECAUSE I LIVE ALONE, THE WASHER IS VERY HEAVY SO I JUST USED SOME SLIDING ROBOTS UNDER THE LEGS OF WASHER SO I COULD SLIDE IT OUT FROM THE WALL BY MYSLEF
AFTER REMOVING THE SMALL PLATE IN THE BACK TO ACCFESS THE WATER PUMP I USED THE NUT DRIVER TO REMOVE THE 3 SCREWS HOLDING THE PUMP IN PLACE, BUT I USED THE PLIERS TO REMOVE THE 2 WATER HOSES FIRST
THEN I MOUNTED THE WATER PUMP BACK INTO PLACE, INSTALLED BOTH HOSES AGAIN
THEN I TILTED IT BACK AGAINST THE WALL WHILE RE INSTALLING THE BELT THEN I PUSHED IT BACK AGAINST THE WALL AND REMOVED THE SLIDERS SO I COULD MAKE SURE IT WAS BACK LEVEL
THIS WAS A VERY EASY REPAIR EVEN IF YOU NEVER FIXED ANY THING BEFORE

THE BELT REPLACEMENT WAS EVEN MORE SIMPLE TO REPLACE BECAUSE THE MOTOR IS SPRINGLOADED SO YOU JUST HAD TO PULL ON IT ENOUGH TO REMOVE IT FROM THE PULLEYS

I removed the back panel and then removed the old pump. After attaching the new pump I flipped the machine and attached the new belt. I put everything back together and voila, the machine works.

Had wife balance washer on front edge while I accessed working parts from bottom of washer. Removed drive belt and turned agitator pulley, transmission pulley and drain pump pulley by hand. Drain pulley hard to turn and shaft had play in it. Ordered new drain pump and replaced upon receipt. Very few fasteners to remove and replace pump assembly. Drive belt was easy to remove and replace. Recommend also replacing drive belt on a washer this old.

I ordered the replacement pump assembly (water pump)for my Atlantis model maytag washer, removed the old one, installed the new one and works like a charm. The only difficulty I had was trying to figure out how to remove the cover on the front of the washer, to remove the clips, it slid side to side instead of popping out, found the instructions on-line, NO instructions came with the pump but if you have any common sense when it comes to repairs it was easy to remove and install the new part.

It was easy to replace the water pump

Lifted lid, removed front cover,put assembly up on blocks, removed belt from underneath, replaced pump thru the front,installed new belt from underneath. Works good now. Thanks for the quick parts shipment and ordering was easy.

Unbolt old pump with three bolt from top of pump inside the washer. Use needlenose pliers to remove intake and output hoses from old pump. Remove belt from pulley under washer. Reverse procedure to install. I was worried because there were two pumps listed for this model number, one being $95 and the other being $40. I bought the cheaper one and prayed. It worked just fine. Fixed a $500 washer that was on it's way to the dump and made $100 in the process!

I pulled off the front cover and started the machine up to determine where the noise was coming from. I was amazed when I opened the front panel as there's only really 2 things it could have been, either a motor or the pump. Both looked easy to replace. Once I started the machine up without the front panel it was easy to determine where the noise was coming from. The pump was screeching so I knew that's where the problem was. It took about 5 minutes to remove the pump. Once I had it out I took it to the computer and looked up the part on partselect.com. It took about 10 minutes to find the correct part as there were 2 different series of pumps. I also ordered a belt because while I was down underneath the washer I figured I might as well change it. The parts arrived 4 days later and it was very easy to install the new pump. I figured I saved at least $125 by fixing it myself.

Not knowing what I was doing, I just started taking the machine apart. Finally, turned the machine on it side and found the belt barely holding together and I was not able to move it. When I removed the belt I discovered that the discharge pump was stuck. Therefore, I also removed it. Everything else seemed to work. When I order the new pump along with a belt, I was glad to see the description of the pump included the pulley. When the parts came they where exactly what I needed and I was able to install them quickly and but the machine back together with out have any extra parts left over.
