Icemaker Control and Motor Assembly

removed screws that held the ice maker in place, then removed the cover (popped off) The drive element was easy to remove, three screws and it was out. I put in the new part and reinstalled the icemaker with the three screws that hold it in place. I never call Sears for any repair. They use contract help and I have heard horror stories about those guys!

I wasn't sure what the problem was, but the ice maker seemed simple and on-line resources suggested the control and motor assemblty was at fault. I searched the internet and Partsource had great diagrams which I could match to the part in hand. The price was right (way less than the local stores) so I ordered it.
I unplugged the unit from the power in the freezer, but unplugging the entire refrigerator works too. I pried off the white cover on the front of the ice maker, which snaps in place top and bottom. There are three screws holding the contoller (the entire front piece), remove them, pull off the controller and push the new one in place. You may have to turn the blade shaft to line up the notch on the shaft to the motor. Then reinstall the three screws, The screws go into plastic so it is easy to cross thread them, so be careful, I actually think I did with no ill effects. Snap on the cover and repower the unit. Done. Simple and quick.

REMOVED THE TWO SCREWS THAT HOLD FLAPING DOOR. REMOVED THE SINGLE SCREW THAT COVERS THE CONNECTING WIRES. DISCONNECTED THE WIRING PLUG. I WIGGLED OUT THE ICE MAKER. TOOK OFF THE MOTOR COVER. SWAPPED OUT ONE MOTOR FOR THE OTHER. REINSTALLED THE ICEMAKER IN THE RESVERSE ORDER OF REMOVAL. NOTE THE WIRING PLUG IN THE FREEZE IS VERY FROM. IT MAKINE S THE RECONNECTION DIFFERCULT.

My icemaker wouldn’t pop out the ice. I bought a used fridge from 2nd Time Around in Russellville AR which was the most horrible customer service experience of my life. They were supposed to have a 60 day warranty but didn’t follow through. After months of begging them, and knowing what part I needed, I just ordered it myself. All we had to do was remove the icemaker, take off the side with a screwdriver, replace the part and slide it back in. We had ice in hours! After taking apart the ice maker, the only obvious replacement was the motor assembly. I check various Internet sites and found the best price at PartSelect.

I removed the ice maker from the freezer after turning off the ice make switch. Removal was easy with only one screw holding in the entire assembly. The ice maker has rails that allow it to slide in and out like a drawer.

After R/R the motor assembly and returning the ice make to the freezer all that remiand was to see if it worked.

Within 10 minutes I had the wonderful sound of water filling the ice maker tray. Within 30 minutes of that, ICE!!!

With instructions from PartSelect.com this was an easy fix. I tested the motor's electric as suggested and was satisfied that the Motor Module (WPL W10190935) would correct the problem. UNPLUG THE REFRIGERATOR! I popped the outside plastic cover off to expose the unit. (1) remove the wire unit that runs the length of the cube maker (2) remove the 3 screws that secure the motor unit and carefully remove it (3) carefully line up the new unit, slide in place and replace the 3 screws (4) install the wire that was removed in step(1). Connect electric to the refrigerator and wait about 2 hours for your first ice cubes. PartSelect.com is the ONLY supplier that you will ever need! Great instructions and trouble shooting suggestions. Took the front of the ice maker off. Noticed the arm inside was broken, found the part on your site and ordered it.....super fast delivery. Replace the moter assembly and off she went. had ice in about 30 minutes. Thanks for your services and I will highly recommend you to others......Thanks again.

i followed the online instructions on how to take the icemaker apart, which were very easy to follow. Once the new part arrived it plugged right in and a few steps later it was back together. within the hour we were hearing the sound of ice dropping into the tray. thanks for all the help this definitely saved us money and hopefully we get many more years out of this icemaker.

The repair was simple.

I first did a diagnosis of the optical cuircuits and found them good. The tray heated up and when resetting the moor controller, the water cyccled to fill the tray so the only other thing it could be was the motor controller.

I removed the wire protectore screw and shroud
pulled the icemaker unit out and unplugged the unit
removed the motor controller end cap
unscrewed 3 screws holding the motor controller
removed and replaced the motor controller. ensured that all wire harness connector poiints were solid
reverse the above instructions and in 5 hours I was getting ice again!

$90 turned out to be a savings from the $250 it would have cost to have someone come out and look at the fridge.

I highly recommend to anyone who can read and use a screwdriver to perform this repair if you have diagnosed this as the root of your problem!

Repair was real easy, I had to remove several screws in the bottom of the icemaker module housing. The unit slide out with no problem there was a wire assembly that hat to be disconnected but this did not present a problem. The old module came out real easy after removing 4 screws and the replacement was not a problem to but in.

I removed the icemaker. One screw at the bottom and then unplug the electric. Remove the old motor from the face that has 3 screws holding it. Put the new motor in. A very simple job. I now have a full ice bin by the next morning.

I Removed 3 screws, pulled off the plate and put the new one on, screwed in 3 screws and away I went. I could not believe how easy it was to order the part and how quickly it arrived. I was very pleased. And I was literally screaming with excitement when I heard the first set of ice cubes drop!

1. Removed the icemaker door
2. Removed the two screws from the underside of the icemaker unit
3. Removed the slide-on plastic cover that protects the power cable connector
4. Removed the icemaker unit
5. Removed the two screws from the control unit
6. Pulled the control unit from the icemaker unit
7. Installed the new control unit and reinstalled the icemaker assembly

A repairman wanted to charge me $250 to do what I did in about 20 minutes for about $120.

We have a side-by-side and the tutorial was different than what we have. Had trouble getting cover off, but finally repaired and WE HAVE ICE! Also took longer than expected.
Saved a lot!

Removed the control and motor assembly by removing the plastic cover and three screws. Shut off the power to the refrigerator while removing the control and motor assembly (and also when installing the new one). Tested the motor using an AC power cord. The motor had apparently failed. Ordered the repair part and installed it taking care that the motor drive shaft and shut off arm were correctly aligned. The icemaker began to work properly when power was restored. The cost of this repair was about half the cost of replacing the entire icemaker.
