Tumbler and Motor Belt

I removed the screws to the front panel which allowed access to the inside. There were four screws that held the drum in place. I removed the drum to have more working room. Once inside, I removed the screws, clamp and clips that held the blower wheel assembly in place. After removal, I replaced the old blower with the new one and installed the new belt. I reassembled everything and the dryer runs like a new one. Very easy job that saved me lots of money. Also, the diagrams on your site were very helpful.

removed the front panel, pulled out the drum, applied the new belt, reassembled, put in screws and voila.....the dryer worked.

Remove the two screws under the door, lifted front panel outward and pulled it free at the top, removed the lint trap assembly ( 4 screws). I pulled the entire dryer drum out and cleaned out the inside o fhte dryer cabinet. Gettting the belt to track correctly took a little fiddling- I had to take the small panel off the back to access the motor pulley to feel the belt and get it set on the drum in the correct spot.

Overall, installing a new belt was fairly easy.

Well lots of other people here described the process and thats basically what I did.
Unscrewed the front of the dryer and behold the mountains of filth, lost toys, and spare change. Unplugged the dryer. Did some basic cleaning but wanted to get to the matter at hand.
Unscrewed the lint trap - realized I did not need to and put it back on. Unscrewed the 4 screws holding the drum and pulled the front off.
I just cut the old belt off. It was cracked and about to go. Put the new belt on and snaked it back into place. Opened up the back hatch and got it into place via the diagram. (It was spot on)
Put it all back together, plugged it in and started it up.
Hmmmm.. a odd rubbing noise.
Took the front off and looked around. Things looked fine. Checked the belt and started making sure it was working right.

NOTE!!!!!!! It is plugged in at this time you idiot.

Ok, so im trying to get the belt in the right spot and checking how the drum turns when i pull the belt. Well my arm touches the contacts for the dryer element and shocks me. Natural reaction is to yank my hand out as fast as I can. In doing so I punch a nice big gash into my palm. So laying on the floor, shocked, bleating, and its a flithy cut with lint in it.
Yeah me!!

After stopping the bleeding and cleaning it with peroxide I got back to it the next day.

I had the belt IN the grove of the drum. I messed around and moved it OUT of the grove. Worked perfect. While it was in the grove there was not enough tension. Moving it to the main drum tightened and had it go perfectly.

Given the age of my dryer, the repair wasn't exactly as proposed on the belt's packaging, but it provided a great drawing of how the belt should contact the motor drive, pulley wheel and drum at the same time. First, I took off the front cover of the dryer with a nut driver. I discovered that I had to put the belt around the drum first and then use my arms to hold the drum up as my hands simultaneously pulled the motor pulley tight and threaded the belt around the motor drive and pulley wheel. After not quite slipping the belt on correctly the first time, I was able to very easily do it on a second try. Had I gotten the belt on correctly the first time, repair would have taken ten minutes. Runs great!!

Unplugged dryer. Removed two screws and removed front of dryer disconnecting the wires from the front. Removed 4 screws and blue wire allowing the me to take the shroud off. Removed blower fan cover by taking out the screws and pulling down. Used pliers to take off clamp on blower fan and then had to use snap ring pliers to remove snap ring. Pulled blower fan off, replaced with new and put back on snap ring and clamp. Reinstalled blower cover, Removed drum by cutting belt (noted the direction of the belt around the idler pulley). Replaced belt (decided since I was going to be in the dryer and it is 14 years old I would replace belt as well) and drum. Reinstalled shroud and front cover. Dryer is very very quiet now.

Followed the directions which were included with the parts - this was a washer dryer combo and found it easier to remove the tension spring on the the idler roller assembly to set the belt in place and then re attach the spring to the frame body.

watch the video. drum roller failed(noise) but looking at the rest of the dryer I desided to replace belt(cracking) and front guides(worn through in places) also discovered it wasn't mice making nests in dryer it was stuff coming through where light protective lense should have been. The video is better instruction than I could give. Thanks.

I observed that the top of the dryer was affixed by two screws at each front corner. With these removed the top of the dryer could be easily lifted and with the front support panel removed the drum, drive motor and idler pulley could be accessed. This allowed the installation of a new drum belt in a short period of time. Installing the belt from the front lower left hand side proved very difficult for me but with the top raised and coming in from the top it was accomplished in short order. Thank you, Wesley Harmon

1st watched videos on making repairs on installing drum support roller kit,front glide kit and replacing tumbler belt.These repairs took approx 30 minutes but, didn't stop the rumbling. Went to a blog site that stated if these repairs didn't stop the noise I should take the tumbler belt off and see if the noise is coming from the motor area it was and further investigation revealed it was the plastic blower wheel,the flat spot on the blower shaft had worn out causing the blower wheel to rumble and vibrate. This repair took 15 minutes after watching the video on blower wheel repair. Runs better then new.

actually used the videos available on your website and it made the job really simple other than the fact that I live in Florida and it was 96 degrees and my dryer is in my non-air conditioned garage.

This dryer has been really reliable. This is the first time I've had to repair it. PartsSelect.com says the noise had a 30% chance the problem would be the tumbler rollers and shaft and 18% it would be the blower impeller fan. I took a chance on the rollers, thinking I would save $20 on the blower fan. Big mistake! Once I dissambled the dryer, I realized almost immediately it was the blower fan and not the rollers. When I manually turned the motor shaft, I discovered the problem. The plastic fan's shaft hole is worn to a larger diameter and is semi-freewheeling on the shaft causing the racket. I replaced the rollers and belt and ordered a new fan. I tried putting electrical tape on the shaft to enlarged the OD like a fellow on this site said, but it worked for about 3 minutes then the racket started again. Also, I had to pull the dryer away from the wall and open the access door to the back of the motor in order to thread the drive belt on the motor and idler pulleys. I couldn't fit my arms along side and under the tumbler. I've got the scratches on my left arm to prove it. Suggestion: Replace the blower fan, rollers and shafts if you have the rumbling noise when operating the dryer. Might as well replace the drive belt while you have it apart, too.

I wasn't sure how to access the belt inside so I went online looking for a diagram. I came accross the PartSelect website and found the awesome video instructions on how to disassemble, change each part and reassemble everything. I discovered I had a broken belt and the drum rollers were bad. I ordered the parts from PartSelect on a Wednesday and they arrived on that Friday. I started the repair on Saturday morning and following the video repair instructions a couple hours later my dryer was back in business for a very reasonable dollar amount. Thanks to PartSelect for making my repair so much easier!!

Remove front panel, front drum support, remove belt, drum, blower cover, spring clip, blower cover, blower wheel assy.
Ordered new parts on line, came in two days, good service. Cleaned out all lint and installed new parts in reverse order.

Followed the instructions supplied with parts. My wife was so happy and the repairs were easy.
