Handle boken loose at the plastic hinge pins
First, I shut off the circuit breaker to the dishwasher and confirmed there was no power. I then removed all the screws that hole the door together to discover what was the issue. Basically the original handle in this dishwasher was junk . all plastic with plastic hinge spots. All 4 were broken off. I started looking for a replacement handle when I discovered this latch assembly. This a much improved design with a metal rod used to hinge the handle.
I was pleasantly surprised when the part arrived i just a couple days.
I shut off the breaker again and then removed all the door screws and separated the two pieces. The latch assembly is held in place by two of the screws that keep the door together. I disconnected the electrical connections from the old latch with a pliers. After placing the electrical connections to the new latch, I reversed the entire procedure to reassemble the door.
A very simple repair and this latch is better than new.

Handle broke, would no longer latch shut
Simple. Remove screws on the inside of the door, latch assembly slipped right out. Pulled off the 2 contacts, attached the contacts to the new latch, inserted the assembly, put the screws back on, and wahlah. Easy, and cheap.

Broken latch
Turned off power to dishwasher. Removed 9 torx head screws from inside door perimeter. Removed 2 micro-switches from latch mechanism. Removed broken latch. Installed new latch assembly. Reconnected micro-switches. Re-installed 9 torx screws. Washed full load of dishes. Smiled broadly because I saved a bunch of $$ doing this simple repair myself.

Broken door latch
I opened the door of the dishwasher and removed the phillips head screws that attach the inner liner to the dishwasher door. Two of the screws that attach the inner panel to the door also serve to hold the door latch in place. So. once the inner door panel was loose the door latch simply needed to have the four wires disconnected from the two microswitches that are a part of the latch assembly. That allowed the old latch assembly to be removed. All that remained was to install the wires to the switch terminals on the new latch assembly (which included new microswitches), set the latch in place, and install the screws that hold the latch and inner door inner in place..

Latch handle broke, so the door would not close
I turned off the breaker, then removed the screws. I replaced the part, and screwed it all back together. Turned on the breaker and it's like new again.
The service company wanted $75 for the part and $125 for the trip charge and labor. $200. I paid just under $30 for the part and it took about 15 minutes of my time.

Broken latch/handle
Turn off the power. Unscrew all the screws around the door. Pull back the door assembly. Unscrew the handle. Unhooked the wires or remove the relay switches from the latch assy. It was a lot easier removing the relay switches from the old handle and swapping them with the new one than removing the wires. Screw the handle back in. Screw the door back together. Very easy and cost effective especially if I had to buy a new dishwasher. Love the diagrams on line!

Dishwasher latch broken
Dishwasher door was open when the latch broke. I removed the screws around the door liner (requires a special "star shaped" screwdriver bit). The old handle was now loose, but attached by wires connected to 2 micro switches. It was easier to remove the micro switches than it was to get the wires off, so I slid the micro switches off the old latch and onto the new, depressing the switch actuators to get them into place on the new latch. Put the latch into place and re-fitted the door liner. Tightened the screws very carefully, especially the ones going into plastic. New latch works better than the old one ever did, even when it was new. Just make sure you have the right screwdriver bit to fit those screws, and be careful not to strip the screw threads out when re-fitting the door liner. Avoid letting the screws cut new threads, make sure they follow the existing threads especially when screwing into plastic.

Broken latch handle
The hardest thing was figuring out that you only need to purchase the latch handle because it only comes as a complete latch assembly, why they even list the latch assembly as a separate part in the parts list stupid. (you get the handle and latch already put together and it cost less than the latch assembly without the handle). Anyway all you need to do is disconect the power from the dishwasher (unless you like to live dangerously like me) take your drill with the correct size torx bit and remove all the screws on the inside door pannel (the top center two screws actually hold the latch assembly in place). Disconect the 4 wires from the old part and reconect them to the new part and reinstall all the torx screws being careful not to strip the plastic threads that they screw into if you are using a drill. Whole process takes less than 5 minutes. I am surprised that Maytag used such a flimsy handle assembly in their dishwashers since they are supposed to have the repair men with the most time on their hands. They probably sell just as many handle assemblies as they do dishwashers that have this particular part in it, probably more since you will probably have to change it 2 or 3 times during the life of the unit.
