I was about to purchase a new dryer because of the age of my dryer and not wanting to hire someone to fix it. After a little web research, I saw several do-it -yourself stories indicating this was a very easy repair. This was an extremely easy repair and it save me lots of $$:(1) Disconnected power(2) Opened the top of the dryer(3) Disconnected wires to temperature sensor.(4) Used a 1/2" socket wrench with extension and a drill to remove 2 screws holding down the temperature sensor(5) Removed 1 screw holding down the heating element.(6) Removed wires connected to heating element and pulled out old element. (7) Reassembled new element.(8) Turned on empty dryer for 30 minutes to burn off smell from the new element.Worked like a charm!

Lifted the top lid, removed hold down screws removed wires, replaced old components, easy as pie, perfect match for parts!
This repair was so easy a sleeping Turtle could do it. You just remove the wiring from the old unit and remember which wire is on which terminal. Easily remove the old unit and replace it. Reattach the wires and you are done! Maytag is a very easy unit to work with. Just remember if you ever have to replace your Terminal Block, don't forget to order the brass nuts to attach the wires. Regular nuts will overheat and cause a fire hazard.
Raise the top of the dryer. This exposed the elements in the back. Removed old elements, paying attention to where the wires go.Installed new elements, hooked the wires up, and I was done.
Removed the top cover, unplugged the wires on the element, removed bolt holding the element in place. Replacement took about Fifteen minutes to complete.
Was told by repairman that the to replace the heating element in my Performa dryer would cost approximately $185.00 (not incl.tax). Ridiculous! Order part for $59.00 and received it a day after it was ordered. Went to work installing heating element. Five minutes later I was finished. Thanks.
My son actually did the repair when he was over here and said it was so easy, even "Mom" could've done it! He said all he did was unscrew one little screw, life out the old part, drop the new part into that slot and replace the screw! It's the easiest repair I've ever heard of! Thank you....I will definitely order parts from your company in the future. Fast shipping too!!
Quick note: I saved over thirty dollars using partselect over the actuall Maytag store parts dept and they still had to order the part to be delivered in 4-5 days. First I pryed the top off of clips in front then removed the screws that hold the element into place, removed the therostat bracket held in by one screw and disconnected wire clips (after labeling the wires) and removed the thermostat from bracket by two screws then disconnected the element wires and slid the old element out. Reversed the process to reinstall the new parts.
After disconnecting power, I popped the lid open by grabbing it on the front sides. Swinging the lid completely back and out of the way, I disconnected the wires from the thermostat. Removing a few screws, the thermostat and the heating element were removed. Reverse the steps and that's it. Very easy repair and now the dryer is like new. While opened, I did take advantage and cleaned all of the lint from the exhaust passages.
I opened the top then i did change the heater element kit only one screw out and finaly replace the temperature switch, again one screw out was realy ease was my first time, the professional online help my, every one can do it thanks i appreciate your help.H.E.K.P/N AH2162280 - temp/switch p/n 31001449.
I suspected (correctly) that the thermostat was malfunctioning so I ordered the Heating Element Kit. This repair would have taken less than 15 minutes if I would not have dropped one of the sheet metals screws in the back of the dryer when re-installing the heating element.
removed screws on back plare and replaced heater element. Thank you very much foe your quick delivery of the part I ordered. I was reall;y schocked to see how fast the part arrived. I will recommend your site to anyone who needs parts like I did,.Thany you Very Much,Alan Brooks
When online& found website... trouble shot for problem per previous posts on PART SELECT.GREAT SITE for problem ifo.I ordered parts, they arrived 2 days later and within 1/2 an hour I had our dryer repaired and working like new!!THANKS!!!
Easy repair and I am not the handyman type. Unplug the unit. Lift the top. Remove 2 wires from temperature sensor and remove single screw to lift out the plate the sensor is mounted to(Easier to change the sensor out this way). Remove 2 wires from heating element and then remove single screw. Lift out heating element and replace with new one. Screw back in and reattach 2 wires. Remove 2 screws on the plate for the temeperature sensor and replace with the new sensor. Once 2 screws are back in the plate holding the sensor, screw back in with single screw and attach 2 wires. I called a tech and they wanted $125 just to look at the unit. When I read other reviews of how easy this repair was, I thought it was worth a try. Definitely saved us a bunch of money and time.
This is the second time that this has happened with my dryer. The first time I replaced the thermostat and fuse, and it worked for a few years. This time I replaced the element and thermostat at first. Still nothing, then got the fuse; and walla just like new. Of course I lost a screw somewhere down at the bottom of the dryer, so there is only one holding the thermostat in place. Also I took off the front and cleaned out the lint traps; both times it was loaded with crap. Probably why it stopped in the first place.
