Question:

My icemaker is over flowing and running right out of the freezer door. I feel like the water is not shutting off properly and the tray is over flowing which is causing the running water. Does this sound right? If so, what’s the most likely culprit?

Lucy
Answer:

Hi Lucy, we recommend checking your water valve 12001414 for damage. A faulty water valve is most likely the cause in this case. Best of luck with this repair!

Question:

The cube sizes coming out of my icemaker in the fridge are not a good size. Is the icemaker adjustable in the sense that I can pick the size of the cubes or at least make them smaller. If so where is it/how do I do it?

Pam
Answer:

Hi Pam, great question! On the right side of your assembly there should be a small, white, plastic screw. Using this, you should be able to adjust the size of the cubes. I hope this helps.

Question:

I have installed the new ice maker I ordered but it does not work. It has not cycled, or responded to inserting wire in test ports as per troubleshooting instructions. Wiring harness seems ok and is plugged in properly. How can I check to see if I have power to the module? Or might I have a different issue going on. Original problem was the ice maker was overfilling and putting water in ice bin. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Charlie
Answer:

Hi Charlie, Thank you for the question. One thing you can try is to fill the ice maker with some water just by dumping some water in the tray with a cup of water . If it cycles and makes the ice as normal it might be the water inlet valve. If the valve is defective it can over fill the ice maker causing it to leak water into the ice bin or not fill the ice maker or fill enough to allow it to go into the cycles and make ice. If the ice maker is still not making ice it sounds like a defective part. Hope this helps!

Question:

My freezer is making weird noises and I fear its coming from the ice maker and that I have to replace it. Im not very handy but I don’t want to spend money on this part and a repair person. How hard is replacing it and do you think I need to replace it? It sounds like a tapping or clicking… not a normal freezer sound.

Jasper
Answer:

Hello Jasper, unfortunately if your icemaker is making a clicking sound, that is a sign that it needs replacing. You can order that here D7824706Q. As for the installation process, it is not a difficult repair. You will need to remove a few screws, unplug the wires to the assembly, and attach the new one. Please let us know if you have any further questions!

The icemaker was pouring water all over the floor from inside the fridge and making a strange noise all the time

The swap was quite easy. All I had to do was remove 3 nuts and unplug the flat wire connector. I kept the old unit when I took it out in case I needed any parts, but the only thing I needed to transfer over was the Ice level wire. Very straightforward!

Ice maker was leaking water into the ice storage bin

The most difficult part of the repair was removing the old ice maker. Removing the three mounting screws was easy, but unpluging the electrical was more difficult as there was no extra length in the wiring harness to allow access. Therefore it was necessary to remove the mounting bracket in order to be able to get the harness in position to disconnect it. Still couldn't see that it had a retaining clip, this was only known by looking at pictures of replacement hartnesses. Once the harness was disconnected, the old ice maker was out. The new icemaker was almost the same as the old one except for having to take the water inlet off the old one and install it on the new ice maker. (no instructions on how to do this, just had to wing it). Once this was done the new ice maker was installed in about 5 minutes.

The ice maker's timer was out of wack

I removed the three screws that held it into place.
The only problem that I had was getting the wire
harness off of the old Ice Maker. After that it was
a breeze. The wire harness snapped right on to
the new Ice Maker Assembly it was great.

Non-functioning ice maker

Pretty basic disassembly and reassembly with only 3 screws involved. Difficulty unplugging wiring harness due to minimal slack to work with.

The ice maker had failed and the inlet was iced up.

The other comments were very useful. After removing the screws, I was able to turn the ice maker assembly enough to reach the electrical harness. This was not easy and required removing the plate at the rear of the compartment. Once removed, replacing with the new ice maker was very easy.

Revised direction of inlet for water/fill tube

Side by side refrigerators are tough to get two arms inside the freezer side (and do much work) especially to unlatch the power connect. The water tube on this old refrigerator feeds from the back so I took a pair of kitchen shears and made a new opening in the back of the catch basin. Sealed the original opening. Don't know if that was necessary. The video was a big help for this parts change. Much easier than expected. G Keen

Leaking icemaker/leaking water dispenser

I also ordered a solenoid valve which solved the water dispenser problem. The vidio presentation on your website plus the personal experiences enabled me to easily install the icemaker which solved the leaking icemaker problem. Two small surprises, I thought the electrical wire plugged into the rear of the refrigerator and I didn't know that I would have to cut out part of the icemaker to accomodate for the refil tube. No problem on both surprises. Thanks

Ice maker had been overflowing into tray

Removed ice maker.

Bottom freezer made access a tad awkward.

New unit did not come with wiring harness, or wire rod that activates cycle, or the front cover, which required transferring those items from old unit. Instructions on internet did not address this.

Installed new unit.

Ice maker stopped making ice.

I turned off the water supply to the refrigerator, and I removed all the food, baskets, and shelving from the freezer unit. I removed three screws holding the ice maker, lowered it, and unplugged the wiring harness. The clip holding the wiring harness in the ice maker was not real obvious, but I found it okay. I took the bail and the front cover from the old ice maker and placed them on the new ice maker. Two of the screw holes for the new ice maker were slotted allowing me to start the screws in the side of the freezer prior to installing the new ice maker, and the third screw was no trouble to start. I really did not need the instructions I ordered, but I am cautious toward having everything I need in case something does not go as planned. This was a very easy repair.
