The latch was becoming very difficult to open being almost 10 years old
I had to remove the screws around the door frame and remove the side panels that attached the inside cover from the interior of the door. Once I removed it I could then unscrew the top cover that then allowed me to remove an inside cover for the internal electrical connections and the door latch was then open for repair. The electrical connections to both sides of the door switch and holder assemby had to be pulled from the assembly and I was then able to remove the assembly and the door latch. The new door holder and latch handle had to be connected to the electrical wires and inserted back into the door and the initial process was reversed to reinstall.

The latch on our dishwasher broke, meaning we could not close the door or start the dishwasher.
We have a nine year old Maytag dishwasher. The handle latch is plastic and over time with the many repeated uses it cracked and broke. I went to the local appliance repair shop and found the part in their data base but it would take ten days to get and cost $22. My wife and I thought it might be time to get a new dishwasher but after checking out prices at $500 or more, I decided to search on line and repair it myself. I found the part easily and quickly on Partselect.com and it was actually half the price of another internet dealer. The photographs helped me confirm I was buying the right part. It cost $6 plus shipping and I was amazed that it arrived in two days to California. It was easy to install, simply by removing the interior panel and slipping the new piece into place in the handle. The dishwasher works like new. Thank you, Partselect.com for a quick answer to our problem!

Dishwasher would not run, unless door held shut by hand
1 - Turned off the power 2 - Loosened screws on inside door panel 3 - Removed panel (still attached by ground wire) 4 - Removed black swtich cover 5 - Removed screws holding latch assembly 6 - Dropped in new latch 7 - Pulled away plastic switch holder, carefully 8 - Examined black micro switches (Land R); noticed right switch button defective 9 - Removed wires (2) from clips on right switch 10 - Pulled out switch (holding up plastic arm) 11 - Replaced defective switch from those in dorr switch assembly (I did not replace the plastic assembly itself, since the old one was OK, but you could if you wanted to be punctilious about it. 12 - Screwed assembly back in position 13 - Put on black cover again 14 - put on inner plastic door panel 15 - Screwed panel back 16 - Ran a load of dishes - perfect!

Latch handle broken
I opened the dishwasher door, then used the Torx bit to remove the screws all around the edges of the door, and removed the inner part of the door. Then I removed the long metal plate at the part of the door farthest front (with the door open) and the large black plastic housing. The metal plate then became a useful tool to brace at an angle between the door and the body of the dishwasher. This not only held the spring-loaded door down, it also held the inner part of the door up against the body of the dishwasher. One nut held the latch assembly to the door; I removed it with the nut driver. On the latch assembly, there are two small plastic catches that keep the latch from sliding out, I held those out of the way with a blade screwdriver and slid the latch out. The new latch then snapped into place, and I assembled the door again in the reverse sequence of disassembly.

Dishwasher would not run when door was closed
I was able to determine that it was the latch handle and the door switch that had gone bad. I removed the door panel and replaced the parts. Was very simple to repair.

Door would not latch properly to complete the cycle
Took out screws on inner door(door part #8), being careful not to let the door swing upward once the screws were removed. Then removed bar reinforcement (door part#9). Next removed the Control Panel Barrier (control panel part #6).Took picutre of items to be removed. Next removed the wires from the Door Switch, had to use needle nose pliers. Removed Door Switch&Latch Handle. Reassembled parts using old "foam". Easy. Total cost: $34.49 vs a quoted price of $160-200.00 for service&parts.
