Intermittent but rare spark when I went to start the rage: spark module definitely was toast or on its way out
The trickiest part was locating the elusive spark module. I am not certain I took the best route, but not considering all the wrong routes in trial and error, it was the most expedient. Certainly there must have been a single something to remove to get to this frequently faulted part..

Anyhow, thanks to the great part, the stove works really well again.

Gas range would not light
Replaced spark module but same problem persisted. Realized that the insulation on the spark ignitors were all cracked, causing a short.

Lesson learned: check the condition of the spark ignitors first as these have a tendency to crack. Even the smallest crack will cause a short.

Ordered new spark ignitors and plan to complete repair.

I think my spark module is bad. Can a homeowner replace this easily?
For model number jds9860gg
PartSelect logo
Hi Brian, Thank you for the question. Yes, most homeowners have replaced the Spark Module on their own. You will need to turn off the gas supply to the appliance and remove it from the power source. Remove the small panel on right side of stove, then unclip module and swap the wires from old module to new module one at a time or take pictures so you know what wire goes to what terminal. Hope this helps!

Many times, the top burners do not light. There's no clicking noise either. If i wait a while they work. Note - this happens to all burners at once. Any help would be appreciated.

Our top burners and oven work fine, but broiler will not light. The igniter does not glow and broiler control turns itself off after a minute or so. We removed the igniter and tested it with a multimeter, and it reached 165. What could be our problem? We are on propane. Thanks.

Hi Terri, Thank you for the question. If the broil is not igniting make sure that there is 120 vac getting to the igniter. If there is and the igniter is not glowing then the igniter is bad. Hope this helps!

My range has 4 burners. Two on the left in one cartridge and two on the right in an identical cartridge. The igniters on the left create a spark all the time and the igniters on the right do not work. I switched the cartridges and the problem appears to follow the right cartridge. I replaced the igniters and it still does not work. There does not appear to be a short in the igniter wiring as I checked it with a meter. Any other suggestions?

I have a Jenn-Air model number as above and none of the top burners will light any more. I suspect the spark module, but I was wondering if this problem could be caused by other parts.
For model number JDS9860ACW

Hi Henry, Thank you for your question. If none of the surface burners are lighting, The issue is likely the spark module, but you will also need to check the igniter switches and the top burner igniters. You will need to test the parts with a multimeter. Here is a link to one of our videos on YouTube that you may use as a general reference on how to use one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWC44fHn0As. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Only one burner sparks now, what is not working correctly?
For model number JDS9860AAB
PartSelect logo
Hi Ruth, thank you for your question. There are a couple of parts to check in this case. First you should check your burner electrode. Then you should take a look at your igniter switches/harness. If those parts are fine then you may have to look into your spark module being the issue. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Our cook top has one burner that will not light. We just replaced the igniter and it still will not spark. The clinking sound is still working and we smell gas, but the burner does not spark. From other comments it sounds like the part we need is the spark module; however, it appears from your parts department it is no longer available for our model. Would another part from a different model work on ours, or are we just out of luck? Suggestions?

I have a Maytag cooktop with five burners the small burner in the back work the other four don't. I changed the spark module and checked each ignitor separately. I ran the wire from the one small burner that worked to each ignitor and they sparked. When I turn on one of the four burner that don't work I get a clicking sound from the back small burner. What could be the problem?
For model number MGC5536BDS

Hello Floyd, Thank you for the question. We suggest testing the Igniter Switch Assembly with Leads and check the continuity with a Multimeter. The switches are located in the controls behind the knobs. We hope this helps!

All burners igniter does not, have replaced the spark module and all the burner igniters and did not fix the problem
For model number jds9860aap

Hi John, thank you for reaching out. Since you have replaced the parts which are the most likely to cause the issue, we would recommend checking the power supply to ensure the range is connected properly to the supply. If this does not help, then you may need to check the terminal block, part number PS11750972, to fix the issue. We hope this solves your problem!
