Element had burnt out....break in actual element
I first removed the plug in module on the left hand side. I then removed the six screws holding the tempered glass in place. Lifting straight up it then exposed the two elements. I unplugged the two wires connecting the large broken element and lifted up gently thus enablying the two loosely mounted screws to come out of their mounting bracket. I took those two screws out and put them in the new one carefully lining up the screws with the holes in the base element to the support ( this in my mind is the poorest design in an otherwise well thought out assembly ).....once satisfied it was stable, I hooked up the two wires and tested the element using a multi meter. Mine was a series 8 and I installed a series 11 so the wiring was slightly different but easy to figure out. I put the glass back on top again and installed the screws. The module was carefully slid back into place and I retested the element with power.....all was fine.
