Amana Side by Side - refrigerator side began to not cool, freezer side froze up
Problem led to 3 possible problem parts, defrost thermostat, defrost heater or defrost control board. Defrost heater ohmed out to 31 ohms, so seemed good. Defrost thermostat was open when warm but was open after running refrigerator to get freezer side cold enough for thermostat to close, it did not I thought. So I ordered thermostat.
... Read more Once part came in, I cut up a couple inches on orange and brown wires, stripped off enough to work with. I soldered new one in and heat shrunk the wires. I turned on and it seem to work and all night. Working fine right now.

Refrigerator froze up, everything a block of ice
Empty freezer to find defrost thermostat, turned off refrigerator, waited for ice to melt. Unpluged unit. Clipped lead wires to thermostat. Trimmed excsess wire on new defrost thermostat, installed butt connector(with heat shrink) to thermostat and then to leads in refrigerator. Heated connector until heat shrink, shrunk down around wires

Freezer gets ice on coils and Refrigerator gets warm!!

Defrost heater stopped working. Refrigerator side not cooling. Freezer side working fine.
Removed inside panel in freezer compartment. Used blow dryer to melt collected ice on evaporator coil. Removed clips on bottom of defrost heater. Remove bottom panel in freezer side to get access to the coil.Remove old heater element and defrost thermostat.Installed new hearter and thermostat.Screw back bottom panel re-start frige.
Cut wires and removed old thermosat. Spliced new thermostat wires into exsiting wire. Put it all back together. Works great now. Thanks for all the help. Your site is great. Only problem we had was getting the part from FED EX. Took over 2 weeks had to go pick up the part ourselfs.

Defrost thermostat wp67004757 what is open and close temperature ?

Hello Carlo, thank you for your question. Locate your refrigerator's defrost thermostat. In freezer-on-top models, it may be located under the floor of the unit, or it could be found at the back of the freezer. If you have a side-by-side refrigerator, the defrost thermostat is found at the back of the freezer side. The thermostat is wired in series with the defrost heater, and when the thermostat opens, the heater shuts off. You will have to remove any objects that are in your way such as the contents of the freezer, freezer shelves, icemaker parts, and the inside rear, back, or bottom panel.
The panel you need to remove may be held in place with either retainer clips or screws. Remove the screws or use a screwdriver to release the clips holding the panel in place. Some older refrigerators may require that you remove a plastic molding before you can gain access to the freezer floor. Exercise caution when removing the molding, as it does break fairly easily. You could try warming it with a warm, wet towel first.
There are two wires leading from the thermostat. They are attached to terminals with slip-on connectors. Gently pull on the connectors to release the wires from the terminals. You may need to use needle nosed pliers to help you. Do not pull on the wires themselves.
Proceed to remove the thermostat. It may be secured in place with a screw, clip, or clamp. The thermostat and the clamp on some models are one assembly. On other models, the thermostat clamps around the evaporator tubing. In some other cases, the thermostat is removed by squeezing in on the clip and pulling the thermostat up.
Set your multitester to the R X 1 ohms setting. Place each of the multitester's leads on a thermostat wire. When your thermostat is cold, it should produce a reading of zero on your multitester. If it is warm (anywhere from forty to ninety degrees Fahrenheit), then this test should produce a reading of infinity. If the results you receive from your test differ from the ones presented here, then you will need to replace your defrost thermostat. I hope this helps!

Refrigerator is freezing up on the freezer side, ice building up inside freezer.,warm on the refrigerator side what could be the problem.

Thank you for your question. If there is ice building up in the freezer section and the refrigerator is too warm, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. I have ice building up in the freezer section and the refrigerator section is too warm. Freezer is fine. The compressor seems to run fine. What is my most likely culprit?

Is there a way to determine if the reason for frost build up on coils causing the refrigerator to be warm is the defrost heater or defrost thermometer? The compressor, fans, etc all seem to be in working order. Thank you.
