Idler Lever

After the dryer was opened up I took off the belt and removed the drum. To get the Idler Lever off I used a wrench to get the back of the bolt and loosened it with the socket. Then I placed the spring somewhere I wouldn't loose it while I bolted the new idler lever down. The spring stretched from the bottom to the new leveler with a little effort.

removed the dryer drum and replaced the idler lever and put the new belt on.

Followed the directions from a repair noted on the webiste. It was easy to follow. Thanks for the help!

lift the top took out 6 screws out ramoved front and drum out. vacaum every thing out replace idler and belt.easy to do.

Removed top and front of dryer. Released drive belt tension. Removed drum. Removed nut on belt tension idler lever/roller and replaced with new unit. Removed and replaced drum rollers. Reassembled dryer. Dried them clothes.

Idler was the noise source. Drum support rollers were failing also. I almost spent $500.00 on a new dryer, glad I replaced the parts instead. Sounds and works like new. Watch the video,its very helpful. Thanks Parts Select. You should advertise your services on TV or radio. I am glad I found you.

Video online was very instructive...only difference was I unmounted the motor mount plate from the bottom to get to the idler lever easier.

Make sure to unplug the power cord.Pry the front,top of the dryer up with a screw driver. Carefully disconnect 3 wires and remember where they go, top right. Remove 1 top bolt on each side of the front cover, inside.Pull up slightly and towards towards you to remove the front cover. Disconnect the light wires if applicable and remember where they go from the front drum support. Remove 4 bolts on the front drum mount cover; the lint catcher will come off with it. If needed, pull up and towards you on the drum to lower the it off of the guide rollers to allow slack in the belt. Reach under the drum, raise the idler lever, slide belt from under the idler lever pulley, remove the belt from the the motor shaft. Carefully remove the drum. A 7/16 wrench and ratchet can be used to remove the idler lever from the mount. Remove idler lever from the spring. Reverse these steps for installation of the new idler lever. For installing the belt, actually fold the belt and put it under the idler pulley and back onto the motor shaft. The idler lever should sit on top of the belt when on properly. Make sure the belt is lined with the wear area of the dryer drum. Roll the drum manually, counter clockwise several times to help insure belt alignment before reconnecting the wires and re-installing the front cover and top. A belt replacement will not require removal of the drum.

I began by disassembling the dryer to diagnose the problem. I discovered the belt had been riding on a section of a broken idler pulley as well as wearing a groove into the idler pulley bracket. I removed the broken parts and went to the Internet for replacement parts. Three days later the parts arrived and I began reassembly. I found it a little difficult to replace the drum with the belt in position but found it much easier to recruit some assistance during this phase. Another factor with the difficulty was that I hadn't paid real close attention to the webbing direction of the belt around the pulley and there were no diagrams depicting the proper direction of the new belt. I did figure it out relatively quickly but would advise paying very close attention to parts positioning during disassembly.

Was very simple after watching the repair video provided o you site. Went exactly as described. Will deffinately use your parts again and will highly recomend it to anyone else who needs parts.

Parts arrived on time as usual. Disassembled dryer and put all parts on. A small pair of snap ring pliers for rremoving the shaft snap ring and wheel of idler woud be beneficial. I did it by removing the entire idler. Hardest part was getting nut back on idler bolt. Nut goes behind mounting bracket for motor and is blocked by dryer exhaust on one side and frame of dryer on other. Used long reach needle nost to hold nut until bolt started into nut.
Reassembled dryer and ran like brand new... no more squeaky!!

My first time to perforn this type of repair. I completely disassembled the dryer and repaired in less than an hour. Saved much money.

I had to punch out the disc on the right side and remove the exaust pipe so I could get my hands in to remove the broken pulley assembly. Then put the new one on tightened the nut and bolt. Put the spring back on and the belt. Added a bit of grease. Put the exhaust back on. Plugged it in and I was done. The most difficult thing was finding the part on my phone screen since my pc is on the fritz. Once I got the proper definition of what I was looking for it was easy.

I found a shrieking noise repair on this website, followed their instructions (winging it a bit) and was able to fix my dryer for the price of those parts - excellent!!! As the other instructions said, mark EVERY wire.
I have additional instructions - MARK EVERY SCREW you remove. I had 4 extras when I was finished and now I'm a bit worried about where they belong :)

I unplugged the power started taking the housing apart it was all exploratory to me as it has been many years since I worked on one. Pry the top front up with a screw driver remove two screws at the top front and two hold down brackets at the top rear flip the top onto some boxes stacked up in back of the dryer. took digital pictures of 2 sets of wires in the front and disconnected them pulled the front panel up off the 2 holding clips swung it out to the right . Removed the 4 screws holding the hub on and removed it slid the drum off the felt pad ( after I put an arrow on it with a marker) and out of the housing. Now comes my dilemma the idler lever shaft was totally screwed up and the belt was laying on the floor of the dryer housing so I had know reference to how the new one should look or the pattern of the belt. I ordered the new pulley from part select .com but it would not take my credit card so I called their 888 # it turned out their service is out of canada and my card was not good out of the states so I used a different visa I received the part in 1 day however it does not come with any directions so I referred to other repair stories on their website but everyone their had their old ones in tact to refer to. I put it back on as best as I could figure but the belt pattern was my new problem every way I tried the belt was to loose I figured the belt must have streched I measured it and it seemed a little long so I ordered a new one again the part came in 1 day. But again no directions came with it. I went back to the partselect.com hoping to find a diagram but no luck there. I found another website with six diagrams to choose from picked the one that seemed most logically to work. I put it all back together and it works. It makes a repetitive clunking noise like it has a half a pair of sneakers in it but it seems to run alright. Its only 2 years old and my freinds told me buy a Maytag and I won't need the extended warranty Yeah right Live and learn
