Washer would only work on cold/cold cycle.
The replacement instructions are clearly shown on YOUTUBE. I followed these instructions precisely. After reading PartSelect website commentaries, this part appeared to be what I needed. However, after installation the problem continued. The washer is twenty-four and one half years old and this was my first problem. Since it was functioning on borrowed time, I gave up on further repairs and ordered a new clothes washer.

Water level Uncontrolled, Belts squeeking
Removed face of control panel, removed cover on back of machine that allows access to water level hose. Disconnected hot and cold water supply. Pulled old water level hose off tub. Had to use screw type hose clamps to install as diameter of hose different from original. Removed hoses from water inlet valve. Easily installed new valve. Tilted machine on it's face to access belts. Took five minutes to replace.

Water was slowly dripping into the wash tub
After first unplugging the washer and shutting off the water to the washer I slid the washer away from the wall. It was a tight cramped space and difficult to get behind it. Most of the time replacing the water inlet valve was spent getting into and out of the work area to get tools and cleaning up a few years of dirt under the washer and water leaking from the hoses after they were removed. The valve removal and re-installation of the new one was pretty straightforward.Just a 3 screws 2 electrical connectors and three hoses. The water inlet hoses were frozen on the old valve and required a wrench to free. I also needed to replace the hose washers which fortunately I had as spares for my garden hoses. I replaced the solenoid leads directly from the old to new valve so as not to get that wrong. Removing the outlet hose clamp was tricky- I needed a fat wrench to depress all the tines and slip it off. Fortunately I was able to reuse it. After securing the mounting screws and tightening the inlet hoses with a wrench just until I met some resistance, I turned the power and water back on and prayed there were no leaks. None- back in business.

The water to the washing machine continued to run into the unit when it was supposed cut off. It continue to fill overflowing the tub of the washing machine and onto the floor. The water had to be cut off at the wall in order to stop the inflow of water.
I disconnected both water hoses from the back of the machine. I then unscrewed the panel that holds the water inlet valve. After disconnecting the two electrical connections from the valve and replacing it with the new unit, the job was done.

Inlet Valve
The valve was leaking. I shut off the water to the machine and unplugged the power supply. I removed the defective valve. I then installed the new replacement valve reconnecting the 3 hoses and the 4 wires to the selenoid. I plugged it in and tried it before I pushed the machine back in place. I had to retighten one of the hose connections due to leaking. The leak stopped and I then pushed the machine back in place.

It saved me some $500.00, the cost of a new machine.

Cold water inlet was limiting flow, resulting in slow tank fill time.
When selecting a cold cycle, the inlet valve would allow for slow water flow resulting in 15+ minute tank fill times.

I unplugged the washer, disconnected all water sources.

I removed the 3 screws holding the water inlet value and cover. Disconnected all cabling and water tubing. Replaced valve, reconnected all cabling and reinstalled.

While I was doing the repair on the inlet value. I replaced the hose washer and also installed a screen kit at the home water valve. The home is supported by a well and at times sees sedimentation in the water which could have sparked the initial issue to begin with.

I did clean the old water inlet valve once before which fixed the problem temporarily. It was time to replace the entire part.

This corrected the issue.

washer would not fill with water
The trouble-shooting section on this website described the above problem and suggested that the proper course of action was to replace the water inlet valve, which I ordered and replaced. Replacement of this part was quick and easy.

Blown Fuse
We were having some very cold weather and some element of the washing machine was making the fuse blow; probably, I realized, because something had frozen. I thawed it out, replaced the fuse, and all good. But, it started to blow fuses again. Their was no way to tell if it was the motor or some other device. I found the wiring diagram taped to the inside of the cabinet. I noticed that the motor seemed to have thermal protection of its own, and that the only other device connected to the fuse was the water inlet valve. I ordered a new one, put that, and a new fuse, in, and did my laundry.

Water started to fill, when I closed the lid it stopped filling, both hot and cold water.
For model number LAT9304AAE
PartSelect logo
Hi Roy, Thank you for your question. There are a couple of parts that you should check. I would suggest checking your lid switch and your lid check switch. It seems like this is the most likely problem. You may also want to check your water inlet valve as well. Good luck with your repair.

I took a load out of the washer and turned knob to start a new load, no water. The spin cycle works but it will not fill with water, no noise, no hum like it's trying, nothing, doesn't matter the temp selection either. Is it the inlet valve?
For model number LAT1916AAE
PartSelect logo
Hi Tonya, Thank you for your question. That would be the first part to check, yes. Most times when you experience this problem, it has to do with the water inlet valve. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Turn switch to hot cold, no water comes in the the tub in, & makes a humming sound. Other two settings is cold water only. Could this be the inlet valve? If so the serial # is 11078016sd to get the correct part # to place an order. Thank you
For model number LAT8226AAE

Hello John, thank you for your question. From your description the most likely issue is the water valve itself. I would suggest replacing the Water Inlet Valve WP22001274. Please enter the part number into the site for current price and availability. Good luck with your repair!

My washer will not fill with either hot or cold water. Nothing, no sounds or anything. The machine will spin but that's it. Does this sound like a faulty water fill valve? Can it be bench tested or does it need to be tested installed in the machine?
For model number Maytag LAT8705AAE
PartSelect logo
Hi Amy, Thank you for your question. If the washer will not fill with water, it could be a faulty water inlet valve. The valve can be tested with a multimeter to verify if it is working correctly. If this is not the issue, there are some other parts that you will need to check to see which ones are causing the issue. You will need to check the lid switch assembly, the lid check switch, the hose washer and screen insert kit, the screens, the hose clamp and the inlet hose washer. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I am not sure if i need inlet valve or maybe lid switch? Washer will not fill but will spin on each selection
For model number LSE7804ACE

Hello Thomas, thank you for inquiring. For this symptom you will want to replace either the Water Inlet Valve part PS11739275, the Inlet Hose part PS11744637, or the Water Level Switch Kit part PS2003728. We hope this helps.

The water (on hot or cold setting) trickles out while there's a jackhammering sound from the back of the cabinet. And then when the tub does finally fill up after about an hour, the wash cycle doesn't run. So i have a tub full of soaking laundry. Solenoid and possibly something else since it doesn't run even after filling up. Ideas?
For model number LSE7804ACE
PartSelect logo
Hi Andy, thank you for your question. Usually if your appliance is having trouble filling you should take a look at your water inlet valve for being the issue. The valve can be tested with a multi meter and should be reading between 500 - 1500 ohms of resistance. If that part is working then you might want to check your water level/pressure switch as well. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
