FREEZER WOULD NOT DEFROST.
I initially tested the heating element and defrost thermostat using an ohm meter. the defrost thermostat was incased in ice, so I replaced it first. The refridgerator worked for about a week and then froze up again. I then replaced the thermistor and the unit is working as designed.

Freezer temperature goes down to -20*F before compressor stops but refrigerator side remains normal 38*F and compressor makes a grunting noise while running.

I'm a pretty handy person generally but I had to call on my engineer neighbor to help. I've never soldered before so I didn't feel comfortable installing the thermistor. Overload relay accessible from back, by compressor unit. Very easy to change out. Diagram from your site placed defrost thermostat in same area.It wasn't. Found another diagram, showed it in refrigerator light area, took that apart, not there. Yet another diagram showed it in the duct work area at back of refrigerator cabinet. Not there.

Where is the refrigerator thermistor for this model refrigerator

Hello Jerry, Thank you for your inquiry. There are two thermistors in this fridge, one in the freezer and the other in the fresh food compartment. The one in the fresh food compartment is located in the ceiling in the light module, you would need to remove the housing and cover to access it. The one in the freezer is at the back corner with a cover over it, you would use a screwdriver and insert it into the tab at one side to remove the cover and access the thermistor inside the cover. Hello Amy, thank you for your question. There are two thermistors in the appliance. One in the freezer section behind the back wall, close to the evaporator. And in the fridge section it is toward the back wall of the fridge around the light bulb area. I hope this helps!

Hi. My fridge will be working well for a couple days, then the freezer will get warm to the point the food will start defrosting and ice cubes start melting. It will turn itself back on eventually and work fine for a couple days again. Then it happens all over again.There is visible frost from time to time. This is only happening in the freezer. I was seeing on the website about the defrost thermostat and thermastor. I would rather not change parts by trial and error, and get the right part first. Can you help. Thank you

My fridge is a Maytag, model mfi2266aes about 10 years old. For the past 2 weeks now everything in the fridge is becoming frozen including vegetables, milk, soda, juice etc. We had this problem for a duration of time also about six months ago. I've made a couple of phone calls to some tech. Places recently. Can i assume most likely this maybe the thermistor that needs replacing? There is frost build-up at the back wall of the freezer compartment. I did not notice any frost in the freezer drawers. There is no water leak and there is no ice or water on the floor of the freezer. The fridge beeps at longer intervals. There is no frost in the fridge compartment. Since this problem started ice maker also does not make any ice while the refrigerator dispenses cold water. My immediate issue though is frost in the freezer.

The Freezer compartment is working fine but the refrigerator compartment is warm. The compressor fan is working fine as is the Evaporator fan in the freezer compartment. If I set the refrigerator temperature control from 4 to off and plug the unit in and turn the controller to 4 again, the damper opens and you can feel air blowing into the compartment. I have cleaned coils under the refrigerator which were clogged with dog hair. I removed the cover from the coils in the freezer compartment and they were clogged with ice and frost. I used a hair dryer to melt the ice. I will put everything back together and plug the unit in for 24 hours to see if anything I have done helps? I there something else I should be looking to possibly replace?
