A recirculating pump is used with standalone ice cube makers. It circulates the water over the top of the evaporator plate, which produces a layer of ice that is then broken down into ice cubes. If you notice that your ice maker is no longer producing ice or there is no water flowing over the cooling plate, this could be due to the recirculating pump not working. pump making noise
The pump was making noise, so I decided to replace both pumps. I had to remove the water bucket to get to the pumps which are easy to change out once there. It is easy to see what you have to remove to get to it. I used the mirror and rachet, extensions, 1/4 socket to remove screws. Tips - Remove the plastic door-inner to help working
... Read moreinside the bin. Also plug the drain because you will drop screws. Magnet sockets don't work on stainless steel. Later I found it is much easier to work inside the bin by pulling the entire unit out (shut off water and power, remove lower panel and disconnect drain tube). It sounds hard, but actually is easy. REMOVE THE TOP (4 screws). it stays connected because of wiring, but it allows full access and makes all kinds of repairs easy, especially pump replacement and even the circuit board behind the front panel buttons if you ever get to that point.
The pumps weren't the problem. The water bucket was only parially filling causing the pump to make noise. The problem was the WATER INLET VALVE. It is super easy to replace. Just remove the lower panel, and the valve is right there. Shut off power and water. To disconnect the hoses you PULL on the little fittings attached to the valve and then pull out the hoses. Took me 15 minutes.
BTW Partselect is awesome, I have used a number of times for ice maker and dishwasher. My next project is the washing machine! Always the right part shipped very quickly.

Followed instructions in Sears parts website. Not difficult but tricky to get screws out and back in.

One of the circulation pumps was going bad and making a loud noise.
I replaced the two pumps, since both were the same design...figuring if one went bad then the other would soon go bad...and then I also replace the water level sensor. All had quick connect plugs. The time is just taking apart the various pieces, cleaning, installing the new pumps and sensor, then reassembling.
I called a repairman to come out and he said it would cost $320 dollars for the repair. So I bought the part and spent $85 dollars and about 25 minutes to repair it myself

Water not flowing over cooling plate
Removed ice scoop and holder. Remove front cover and pump bracket. Replaced pump and replaced covers. Started up and working well.

was not making ice
diagnosed no water flow over evaporator checked voltage into pump then checked pump with ohm meter ordered pump and installed by removing access cover and water holding assembly installed new pump replaced water holding assembly and access cover and returned icemaker to service all is well

Ice Maker leaking proved to be a cracked value (not pump)
We had the coldest winter in 114 years in north Texas (must be global warming...) and our outdoor kitchen ice maker value assembly frozen and cracked.
1) Remove bottom panel screws using nut driver 2) Remove door screws 3) Unhook two power connectors from value assembly 4) Release water supply quick connects

Read more />5) Replace value 6) Re-install door - this is a a little tricky there is a spring on each side which slows the door when opening and this pulls the door down which means the screw are not properly aligned by default. You basically have to pull the door up( a second set of hands help) and attach the screws and then let it go.

Took the two pumps tested them with 12 volt Battery. one pump didn't work. Looked up part nomber on Google and it lead me to this Co.

Ice maker stopped making ice. It would run through a cycle but the recirculating pump would not pump water across the cooling plate. I replace the recirculating pump and noticed that the temp sensor had a wire detached from the harness so I replaced it also. I reinstalled everything but the recirculating pump will still not engage. The reservoir fills with water and after 10-15 minutes the drain pump empties the reservoir, refills and then the process starts over again but the recirculating pump still does not engage. Is this likely a wiring harness issues, or could the control board be partially bad?
