This expensive refrigerator is barely 3 years old and now it heats up, cools down, heats up, cools down and it's NOT the normal defrost cycle. I'm talking the refrig normal the 35 deg zone and the freezer at 0 and then, it's up to refrig 65 and the freezer near 50. Stays like this for hours and hours. Today, it's done it for over 24 hours. We've called a licensed LG repair guy and he "reset" it by pulling the plug. He said condensers either work or they don't, not intermittently. I'm think the mother board has gone nuts. It's been like this now for 10 days and we still don't know what the heck to do. I paid $4,500 for this and LOVE it (when working, of course). What would you suggest to try? A new PCB Assembly, Main for this unit that you have? I'm truly desperate now! At first I thought, hmmm, could it be something wrong with the defroster mechanism that it isn't shutting off when it should? Is that a mother board issue if it were? Help, please! Tena

Hi Tena, Thank you for writing. We suggest testing the defrost thermostat first. The best way to do this is to remove the thermostat from the refrigerator so you can control the temperature of the sensor. You can let the sensor warm up to room temperature. With the sensor warmed up to room temperature the sensor should read approximately 6.2K Ohms at 68°F. With the thermistor submerged is a glass full of ice water, the sensor should be very close to 32°F which should read approximately 16.3K Ohms. If the values that you are getting are far off from these readings, then the sensor is bad and should be replaced. if it is good, you may have a faulty control board. We hope this helps!

Is this part one I can replace myself or do I need a certified technician to do it?

Hello Christy, thank you for contacting us. You can do the replacement yourself. Follow these step-by-step instructions to replace the main control board. First, you should unplug the power cord before beginning. To replace the main control board in your refrigerator, first remove the screws securing the control board access panel. Pull the panel off. Note the location of the control board wire connecters and disconnect all the wires. With the wires removed, pull back the retaining tabs to release the old board. Install the new control board by first sliding the board behind the tabs on the right side of the housing, then snap the board behind the left tabs. Connect the wire connecters to the appropriate terminals on the new board. Realign the access panel and replace the screws to secure. You are now ready to plug the power cord back in and confirm that the refrigerator is working properly. Good luck with the repair!
