This adjuster connects to the right hand side of the top dishrack. It is used to change the height of the upper rack.
This part works with the following brands: Whirlpool, Admiral, Estate, Inglis, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Maytag, Crosley, Jenn-Air, Hardwick, Magic Chef, Amana, Caloric & Glenwood.
This part fixes the following symptoms:
Remove the entire top dish rack by removing the two front covers on the left and right metal grooved slides. The covers are plastic. No tools are required. After removing the top dish rack, the rack adjuster (with two cheap plastic wheels) is easily removed with an allen wrench. There are six fasteners that must be removed to detach the rack adjuster from the rack.If only 1 of the 2 cheap plastic wheels on this assembly is broken, do not throw away the old assembly. The functional plastic wheel can be removed and saved for the next time one breaks!!! This cheap plastic wheel cannot be purchased separately from the entire rack adjuster assembly.

The middle (plates and silverware) rack of my maytag dishwasher broke. The supports for the wheels were plastic hubs that bore the weight of the rack.About a year after owning the dishwasher, the front two plastic wheel hubs that support the rack broke. I ordered the left and right Rack Adjuster Assembly which included the main T shaped support rail including the two wheels. The good news is that these hubs are METAL which should not break like the weak plastic hubs of the previous version.I removed about 4-5 screws from the original assembly, and installed the new rack adjuster assembly and replaced the screws. About 20 minutes total for both sides.I also replaced the tracks since mine were somewhat bent after the original supports broke.Very nice to have a fully operational / sturdy middle rack again on this dishwasher.
This is a very common problem with this model. However, in addition to this part, you also need the following part numbers (which are not listed for this model):PS920544 - Lever AdjusterPS893981 - Cover, Rack AdjusterThe updated RACK ADJUSTER ASSY part did not match up to the other parts in my dishwasher. But, after I found a diagram for another dishwasher model that showed the above two parts as well, I ordered them in hopes that they would work for mine. They worked like a charm, and the design of the new updated part is much better than the original part (which, if you take a look at epinions.com, breaks on just about every machine).I hope this helps someone out ... I was close to ditching our 1.5 year old dishwasher and buying a new one!
1)Turn off breaker to dishwasher.2)Remove screws that fasten plastic liner to outer door with allen wrench.3)Disconnect two wiring connections to latch assembly; this was toughest part of project, had to use pliers to get metal connectors our of sockets.4)Connected new assembly and screwed door back together.
First I placed a cutting board under the rack to hold it in place while I took the five screws out of the bracket holding the T shaped bracket in place. I then just switched out the old for the new and guided the bracket into the side mounting piece and placed the end cap back on. Double checked the tightness of the screws and it was done.
Had to purchase complete rack adjuster for forty dollars instead of roller assembly or, even better, an axle for five dollars because Maytag wants to gouge us. Anyway, removed rack from washer, removed screws holding plastic cover on adjuster, removed adjuster from rack, replaced with new part and re-assembled. Be sure the spring steel part is in cover. FYI part was correct and shipped quickly. Thanks.
removed plastic clips, slid top rack out, unscrewed the rack adjuster, screwed in the new one... done...Two things to look for 1) you definitely need a star shaped screw driver2) pay attention when you take the spring adjuster out, it will be easier to put back in
if you have a screw driver with the Star end it is a matter of minutes to do the repair. Simply undo the roller guide keepers at the end of the rails and remove the top shelf. Once this is done place the shelf on it's side and remove the 6 screws holding the roller assembly and reinstall the new assembly. Slide rollers into each guide at both sides and reinstall the guide keeper.Wallah......
Quite easy to disassemble the rack arm then replace with new one. I was concerned the part might not fit my dishwasher because it's fairly old and the series numbers were not quite the same, but it fit perfectly. I am very impressed with how quickly I received the part, too.
All I really needed were the 4 wheels, but had to buy the entire assembly with wheels permanently affixed ($70)! It was not compatible with my rack assembly and I had to seriously modify the existing rack and cannibelize the new assembly to make it work. It is no longer adjustable, but at least it rolls without falling down (so far).
Hardest task was finding model number on my ancient dishwasher. Finally just looked at photos and picked the right one. Ordered part and it was here in 24 hours (How do they do that?!!) and it still cost less than at local appliance shop. Carefully kept old screws so I could use them on new adjuster. Part doesn't come with new screws, so watch what you do when you take old one apart. Needed a star screwdriver which I had from a previous repair when I was trying to replace just axle without buying whole new adjuster. Easy enough to do but need a third hand to hold up rack while attaching adjuster.
I removed the middle rack from the dishwasher being careful to pay attention to how the end stops were located. I put the rack on the kitchen table and with my new parts placed where I could reach them, simply unscrewed the faulty parts and replaced them with the new parts! Couldn't have been easier. I especially appreciated the ease of navigating your web site and locating the parts I needed. I was looking for something entirely different until I read feedback from a previous customer and knew instantly what part I needed!
I called a local repair service company, they came out said that they couldn't repair the problem because they couldn't get the part!I found your web site ordered the part, it came in 2 days, the same day I installed both rack adjusters in 30 minutes! The service person was a man and I am a woman so that made me feel even better!Thank you so much!Sincerely,Evelyn
Replaced the part...it was easy!
I had changed a rack adjuster several years ago but decided to take a look at your videos before starting the repair. I watched both videos and then did exactly as suggested. The repair went very quickly and was extremely easy.
