Gears stripped
Dismantling was a little difficult, because the snap ring was soooo tight. (Our snap ring pliers aren't the best.) We also bought gear grease and a new gearcase housing. Watched several videos on repair. Noted part placement while disassembling. Found problem, ordered and received parts. Cleaned out all old grease. Greased all parts and reassembled per recommendations, paying attention to the bearing race and washer placement. Firmly tensioned all fasteners, cleaned up and tested.
Replaced the worm gears. Original were ground down as if they were not seated correctly. Ordered the parts and swapped them out. I do not own a retaining clip removal tool. This was the most difficult, trying to open the clip using 2 needle nose pliers. It made the repair time longer.
Took the mixer apart many times. Grease all over the place. put new gears in still noisy. The worm gear must have been cut wrong. The noise still there. The part select sent out a new worm gear. I did not put it in yet. I put the old worm gear in and the noise stopped even though it shows wear. Have not decided whether I will put it in y

took it apart. more grease all over. Put in all but one gear on the top. The noise is still there going to try to but the old bearings in and try again. ... Read more tear able. I tried the different parts I ordered one at a time. To find out which one stopped the noise. Every time I took a part I had grease all over. It took so long every time I put in a new part to put the trans back together again. I had grease all over.
I took all the grease out of the top of the mixer. Saw that the gear was worn. When the new parts came I put as much grease in as was in before. Put it back together and it worked like a champ.
the hardest part is removing the retaining ring (didn't buy pliers)after that it is very easy, remove ring, top gear, center pin, bottom gear,worm gear(was removed first)the grease is pretty nasty,clean off the old grease and put it all back the way it came apart,with new grease.And then PRAY !!!!!!! Remove covers, open gear box, remove lock ring and gears to deterime which gears were bad. Remove old grease, install new gears and pack with new grease.
Broken thrust bearing kit caused damage to the worn gear
Disassambled the gear-train.Removed all broken pieces and grease from gear case. Cleaned gear case and all parts. Reassembled gear-train with new parts and packed all with suitable quantity of new grease. Test run with variable speeds assuming working smoothly.

The gear has 60 teeth. The old worm gear had only 52 teeth. My stand mixer is 18 years old. Do you all stock an older part with fewer teeth?
