This control knob may also be known as the selector knob or the room air conditioner rotary switch knob, and is compatible with your room air conditioner. The part will allow you to shift the rotary switch to pick which cooling and fan modes you prefer. This piece is sold individually, it comes in a light gray shade, and accepts a D-shaped shaft. You can easily make this repair by pulling the old knob directly off its post to remove it, and snapping the new part in its place. This model measures to be about one inch in diameter.
This part works with the following brands: Whirlpool, Admiral, Estate, Inglis, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Maytag, Crosley, Jenn-Air, Hardwick, Magic Chef, Amana, Caloric & Glenwood.
First removed the power and front panel. Then in order to get to the damaged cooling selector switch, I needed to first drill out three riviets holding the small front pannel that the switch and thermostat selector switches are mounted on.Then it was a simple matter to unscrew two small screws holding the broken cooling selector switch in place. At this point, I unhooked each wire (about 7 of them) from their terminal connector on the back of the switch, and reapplied each to the new switch. After I was done I then mounted the new switch with the two screws and realigned the pannel. The only thing remaining was to install the small pannel using three pop rivets and slide on a new knob, and reinstall the large A/C front cover. FYI, The new replacement switch and knob were perfectly identical, and worked like a charm.
