The suspension spring supports the outer tub and keeps the tub steady during loads that could cause an unbalance. If this part breaks, is worn down or has stretched out and lost its spring, it could cause the load to be off-balance which can lead to excessive shaking, moving, noise, and leaks. For this repair, you will need a 1/4 nut driver, a putty knife, a flat blade screwdriver, and a pair of needle-nose pliers. Disconnect the power supply, fill hoses, and drain hose to give you safe and easy access (have a container nearby for water left in drain hose). Excessive tub wobble, tubs leaning forward of normal
Washer is 29 years old. Found that tub spring hooks into a simple (non-reinforced) hole in the base frame, and it had worn the hole through through the edge of the frame (key hole style). ... Read more that the suspension pads looked fine, but the wear pads showed a lot of wear and the front one was snapped in the middle, perhaps an after effect of the spring failure. From my lack of attention, initially tried to get front pad into the wrong set of holes, a bad fit; corrected. Simply drilled a near-by hole in the base frame for the tub spring.
While the tubs were out, took them outside and scrubbed them clean. Also cleaned agitator parts using bottle brushes. Followed the PartSelect videos and owner comments for procedures, methods. Found that some miss some important info, but if you watch others you can combine the info to find what you need re disassembly/assembly.
At one point while attempting to remove the outer tub, did not realize that the screw that holds the rear spring bracket to the tub also holds the tub to the suspension plate.
Took me most of a day for the whole process, and I ended up with pulled/spasmic muscles from all the bending over, mostly from cleaning parts I think. Very helpful to have the parts breakout drawings, videos, others' experience.

... Read mored that. In the course of replacing the springs I discovered I could also access the wear pads by lifting the drum off of the undercarriage and placing a block to hold it above the pads. I was able to pop the old pads out by tapping underneath them with a hammer. The new pads were then installed and the weight of the drum popped them in. Once it was off I was able to replace the Tub Wear Pads quite easily. Getting to it was the challenge. Installing new wear pads and new suspension springs fixed the problem. Once I had the casing back together I replaced the agitator cam set as well. I figured as long as I already had it apart why not be proactive and fix the next to fail and boy am I glad I did. Are there 2 tub springs? Are there three suspension springs? On the back i cannot see where it should go. The pictures and videos don't show it. I'm pretty sure there should be a back on, as i found the spring on the floor. But i do not know where to connect it .... there is no little thingy to put in the rectangular hole that the other ones have so i don't know where it goes or what the thingy is called to purchase one... i've bought 3 of the springs from you.. really need to fix it right away,,, i have it all apart. could send a picture if that would help. anxious to hear from you. thanks.

I see that there are 3 suspension springs on the tub, the spring at the back on the right side looks either longer or is stretched out. Is this one suppose to be the same as the other 2 springs?

We moved our washer to a drawer stand under it. It started being very off balance in spin cycle. We leveled it all before using. Now the door won't lock to start machine. Also it didn't finish washing stopped after the 1st spin cycle so i shut it off.

Hello Crystal, thank you for your question. If the unit is leveled properly, and the door is not locking it sounds like the lock mechanism may need to be replaced. The part number is PartSelect Number PS11745016. You can also test the part before replacing. You will want to test the Door lock solenoid from pins 2 to 3 and 3 to 1 and should read 60 ohms on either of them. Then you will want to test the switches. From pin 5 to 4 with the door locked should read 0 ohms as well as pins 2 to 1. I hope this helps!
