To release knob - pull the tab on the backside of the timer.
This part works with the following brands: Whirlpool, Admiral, Estate, Inglis, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Maytag, Crosley, Jenn-Air, Hardwick, Magic Chef, Amana, Caloric & Glenwood.
This part fixes the following symptoms:
I determined that the timer was defective and needed to be replaced. The repair went fast once I determined how the control panel worked, as the two screws are on the front of this model and not the back. After removing the 2 screws fold up the panel. Make sure you have the machine unplugged from the wall. Unplug the timer, there is a tab on the bottom that locks it in place. Then pull down the small black pin in the center of the main dial, this allows you to pull off the front knob. Next remove the screw under the control knob and the timing unit can be slid over and removed from the panel. The new unit is installed in reverse of the removal. Plug in the control cable and make sure you have the control knob pushed down all the way when you push in the black pin that holds the knob in place (underside of the timing unit). Reinstall the front screws and you’re done.
