This part works with the following brands: Whirlpool, Admiral, Estate, Inglis, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Maytag, Crosley, Jenn-Air, Hardwick, Magic Chef, Amana, Caloric & Glenwood.
This part fixes the following symptoms:
1. Remove 1 screw holding each of 2 Hinges - use T15 driver. 2. Push tub to one side to get access to each screw from underside. 3. remove & replace broken Hinge Pin from Lid with T15 driver. 4. Drive broken pin out of the Hinge with a punch & hammer. 5. Install new Hinge Pin to Lid. 6. Add a little Vaseline to Hinge Pin & slide Hinge Pin into Hinge. 7. Line up Hinges to holes & re-install both Hinges with Lid. Have somebody help hold the Lid in a slight angle will make re-installation easier.

I followed the feed back in the forum from a previous repair. I popped open the top of the Washing and propped it open @ approx. 70 degrees, moved the Tub out of the way and used a small Phillips Scwdrvr to remove the broken part, installing the new parts was a snap, I took the time to use a Q-Tip and petroleum jelly to coat the pin and hinge making it easier and less binding when opening the lid.
short drive, 90 degree, "star" driver. push tub to side and back to reach lower part of old hinge, remove single screw. (careful not to drop it into the "mechanics" of the tub.) repeat for the other side. remove parts from lid. reassemble new parts onto lid, along with lower hinge parts. secure the lower hinge to door part(s) with masking tape to hold in place. hold lid in place over lower hinge screw holes and start screws by hand. snug up the screws and your done! the 'STAR" screws may be relpaced with similar "phillips" so you wont have to scrounge for a "star" driver the next time.
Opened hinges top of washer. Removed screws holding hinge bases. Removed the washer top lid and unscrewd broken hinge pin. Replaced hinge pin and inserted in pin base and screwd base op hinge back onto washer and job was done.
Lift the top of the washer so you can access the screws that hold the hinges. Replace the hinges, and close the washer top. This is the sescond time we have had to replace the hinges. This lid and hinges are very poorly designed. Instead of opening to the side, it opens straight back. That means when the hinges wear out (and they do because they are plastic), you have to push the lid all the way back to stay open. When you push it all the way back, it hits the control knob and turns off the water. If you are like me, I like to turn the water on and add the soap so it can dissolve before I add the clothes. It is really irritating when you open the lid and the only way for it to stay open is to push it all the way back and the water shuts off. And if you don't push it all the way back, it slams and scares the bejeebers out of you or slams on your fingers.
I lifted top portion of the washer after removing rear attachment screws to obtain access to lid hinge and mounting pins. I unscrewed the broken hinges and pins and installed the new ones.I believe I could have avoided removing the rear attachement screws by sliding a screw driver or flat pry bar under the front panel and lifted the front panel up. The job would have taken much less time.
We have a Jenn-air washer & dryer that we bought new & are now almost 15 years old. I just put about $20 into the washer that took me about 20 minutes to do the repairs. Change tub to pump hose & lid hinge pins. The dryer was about $40 to fix. Blower wheel & drum rollers. That repair took about 40 minutes. Both units you have to take the front cover off & that will expose just about everything. A screw driver between the top & front will pop them open. One hour & $60 in 15 years. I think we made a good choice.
I replaced both the pin and the hinge. The old screws did not fit these parts nor did either of the parts fit the other part although they were almost identical. Screws should be included with the parts as these are supposed to be replacements. Do not try to order only a pin or a hinge without the other. Delivery was very quick.
Watched and followed the video
I watched the video first. It was correct except for the tool was not a phillips screwdriver, but a torx drive. Rounding up the tools took the longest. Everything else was just like in the video.
It took two of us to move aqnd hold the tub so we could install the hinge. I would not say it was easy to accomplish this.
I found the parts that needed replaced on the Parts Select web sight.I clicked on see install video icon for replacement of the parts that needed replaced and that made the repair real easy.
I used a putty knife to depress the holding clips under the front of the lid, then raised the lid to access the screws . Using a phillips head screwdriver I removed the screws holding the hinges and removed the door/lid then after removing the screw holding the broken pin, removed and replaced it with the new pin. and reinstalled the two screws on the hinges to reinstall the lid, and snapped the top back down. The whole thing took me less than 10 minuites to accomplish.
clicked on how to do it yourself on the part and video showed how to change it.
Viewing the video on how to replace the hinge pin was very helpful orienting me on how to get the job done. As I viewed the video, I thought to myself, "It couldn't be that easy!" Once I received the part in the mail, which was received quickly, I followed the video instructions in finished the repair in 5 minutes. It was a great experience and gave me a new online parts distributor that I will use in the future since I am a born "Do it Yourselfer." Thanks.
