0. Disconnected the dryer power supply1. Removed the control panel (3 screws, star bit)2. Detached the electric power supply cords from the timer assembly (took a bit of easing back and forth - do not pull by the electric cords, pull the socket itself)3. Timer assembly eased off subsequently (held in place by three unscrewed receptacles)4. Installed the new timer assembly, plugged back the supply cords, and installed the new timer knob, skirt and chrome cap. They don't build Maytag equipment as they used to. We bought a fridge, washer and dryer 6 years ago - all three of them have had component, part stress and/or electronic sensor failures :-(
The two parts purchased were the corrects parts needed to do the job. (There's always a first time for everything!) When the plastic timer knob broke away from the timer stem, it left the silver timer cap's locking pin embedded in the timer stem. I could not remove the broken remains of the knob while the broken off pin was still in place. And it was impossible to grip the pin with pliers or tweezers without damaging the timer stem. As a solution I grabbed my whole-house vacuum cleaner hose and sucked the broken pin out of the timer stem. Total time of repair was about 20 minutes not including the two-hour brainstorming time-out that led me to the vacuum cleaner solution.
simply replaced the timer.thank you for perfect service
I removed the silver cap and then removed the knob itself. I replaced the knob with the new part and also the silver cap with the part. The job was complete.
I went to maytag website and ordered the parts it was so nice all I did was enter model number and it gave me easy interactions to order parts I needed. I repaired it myself with parts I ordered and with the instructions it came with it guided me step by step and the best part is I saved money on paying someone to do the labor!!!!
Removed Screws on panel, pluged new timer into wire replace panel, but on new knob and cap and it was ready to go.
