This black lid switch assembly comes complete with a bracket, two switches, and a fuse. An open fuse might indicate that the lid switch is bad. The point of the lid switch is for the tub to stop spinning when the washer lid is opened. It is a safety precaution just in case someone decides to stick their hand inside the washer while the tub is spinning.
This part works with the following brands: Whirlpool, Admiral, Estate, Inglis, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Maytag, Crosley, Jenn-Air, Hardwick, Magic Chef, Amana, Caloric & Glenwood.
This part fixes the following symptoms:
I suspected the lid switch right away. Where I went wrong was in thinking that I had to get to it from below. After going to all the trouble of removing the front panel and detaching the top panel, I discovered that it was located inside the control section at the top of the appliance. It only took a few minutes to remove four screws and gain access to the old switch assembly and swap it out with the new one. One thing to note; the new switch assembly has to be set in exactly the right place along a slotted channel in order for both contacts to be activated properly. It's not difficult to find the right spot, but you have to do it consciously.

Used the online trouble shooting info. Tested as was requested. Found the lid switch. Noticed the fuse was bad. Replaced the fuse and noticed only water was cominf in. Ordered new lid switch assembly. Came with 48 hrs! Replaced and washed clothes! Great service!
descovered blown fuse on lid switch assembly. Checked out info on Parts Select.com they reccommended the lid switch assembly. I bought it putting it in was very easy! Problem solved!
Replaced the lid switch assembly. The pictures were very helpful. Very easy to replace. Saved at least $150 doing it myself.
Removed control faceplate (2 screws on top edge and flip forward). Removed wires one-by-one with needle-nose pliers and replaced on new switch to avoid mixing the connections. Removed screw and replaced switch then, replaced screw. Moderately tightened new part and operated lid. Listened for click open and closed. Adjusted switch position for proper "click". Tightened screw and replaced front panel. Done in about 10 minutes.
Opened top - removed old switch assembly. Plugged in new switch and re-assembled. Had to reopen top when washer filled and did not start cycle. Switch assembly needed moved slightly in order to engage second switch.
I removed the old lid switch assembly from washer and one by one exchanged the wires to replace correctly on the new part. I placed the new lid switch assembly in the washer using the screw to tighten the part in place. I turned on the washer and after the water level stop the wash cycle began immediately. Friends were impressed I used your web site to determine the part selection by the previous reviews and that I replaced the part with ease. Took a look at the new door switch assembly, used a socket wrench to remove the old, took wires off of old and attached them to the corresponding terminal on the new. attached the new assembly inside the top panel. Works!
The hardest part was actually finding the right part. It was easy to take of the control panel. make sure you unplug and plug in the correct wires....I thought that would be it, but after doing that you need to fine adjust the whole assembly so that the timers and automatic switches work well. That's about it.
Pulled the switch assembly cover off. Removed the screws that held the lid switch assembly on and replaced the assembly. I just want to say that the online exploded view of the parts list was very helpful. I really needed pictures and your website had them. Also the service delivered my part very swiftly and ordering was easy. If I ever need appliance parts again I will order them from your website.
Based upon my research on line and my 'hunch' I ordered the Lid Safety Switch for this old Maytag Washer. Got the part in good time and it was very well packaged. After having some difficulty in removing the one nut that held the old switch in place I installed the new switch, plugged it in and was delighted to hear the washer working like the old days. Now I have many, many loads of clothes to catch up on.
I turned the dial to other selections and nothing worked, no power. I checked the fuse box, but nothing was off, and then I checked to make sure electricity was working with a light bulb. I googled the situation and came across this site and read other posts as they sounded exactly like what I was experiencing. I ordered the complete lid assembly not just the fuse. The item arrived quickly in two days. After about an hour, as it was pretty easy to replace, the washer was working again! Thank you all for posting, as it saved me at least a couple hundred dollars.

Done a troubleshooting problem online. Figured out the problem and ordered the part. Removed old part installed new part and I am a female not that it should make a difference but some would say it does. Had the old part out and new part put in and it took me about 30 minutes. Washer now works like a new machine. Very pleased and proud of myself. The part was the lid switch assembly.
Checked the fuse it was blown. So I replaced it, pluged the washer back in. pull the start knob that's when the lids switch sparked and blew the fuse again. Found you on line ordered the complete assemble to save me from the trouble of slowly change each. Switch out the wiring from old to the new assemble. Line it up, one screw and a little adjusting and the Maytag is back in business! Thxs Guy for the quick shipment had it in two day on a ground shipment!
