This evaporator fan motor is located in the back of the freezer, and circulates air over the refrigerator coils. These coils will convert the heat into cool air, which is then circulated.
This part works with the following brands: Whirlpool, Admiral, Estate, Inglis, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Maytag, Crosley, Jenn-Air, Hardwick, Magic Chef, Amana, Caloric & Glenwood.
This part fixes the following symptoms:
I could hear a noisy rattling sound coming from the freezer section of the refrigerator. It sounded like a bad fan or loose part. I noticed the sound would go away if I turned the freezer section of the fridge OFF.I opened up the freezer section and put the frozen food in a cooler and turned OFF the freezer. The back wall has several hex head screws that I was able to remove by using the small nutdriver portion of a "Husky" brand 6-in-1 screwdriver. I had to first remove the icemaker and disconnect the quick release power connector to remove the back panel.After removing the back panel and fan vent, it was easy to access the fan. It was very apparent that the bearings in the fan were worn out. Removing two more screws released the entire fan and housing.The replacement part from PartSelect.com arrived quickly. PartSelect.com had the lowest price that I could find on the Internet, and it was not available from Sears. Go figure!The part number matched the Sears part number and was a direct replacement both mechanically and electrically in size and power requirements.All I had to do was remove the wired spade connectors from the old fan and insert the new fan assembly. The connectors were an exact match and the whole process of replacement took about 15 minutes. More time was spent moving the frozen food and ice maker. I used pliers to help remove the spade connectors and nylon wire clips as they were on pretty tight.Be careful not to damage the delicate fins of the condenser. After replacing the fan assembly, I installed the back panel, ice maker, frozen food, and turned the freezer back on. The whole process took less than an hour. The refrigerator now runs quietly like it is supposed to.I have to say, this is the second part that I have ordered from PartSelect.com (the first part was to replace a water pump for a wash machine) and it has been a very good process. I wish working with Sears was this easy.

I removed the Icemaker then the backpanel in the freezer. The fan motor removal required only to hex screws and three wires to dismount. The biggest problem I had was the replacement motor had the connecting pins for the wire harness on the reverse side. I thought I could unbolt the motor and flip it but this did not work. I remounted the new motor and was able to get the wires connected. The thermostat clipped in place but one of the wires had a different connector than the new unit. I used a wiring snap connector to complete the connection. The defroster timer was under the refridgerator and after taking two screws off the cover plate was just an unplug and plug in the new unit. When I first turn the unit back on nothing happend. I soon realized I had to advance the timer until the unit kick on. It has worked fine since and solve both the noise problem and defrost issue.
First time refridgerator repair, I was lucky this was not that bad of a job.Removed food from freezer, took off ice maker by removing three screws, removed back panel by removing six screws. Once the back panel was removed, the fan assembly could be viewed while powered up. It was not spinning and air was not moving above or below the fan. I removed the electrical connections by hand (with the 'fridge powered down) and removed the fan assembly by removing the two screws adhering it to the back of the freezer section. I replaced the fan assembly and had some difficulty because the new unit shipped by partselect had the electrical connections on the opposite side than the original assembly. The wires were barely long enough so I was able to make the connections and subsequently attached everythng in the same manner it was removed and the fridge works great.
unPLUGED THE REF. FIRST..I removed the ice maker, then i removed 6 screws that was holding the panel covering the fan assy. body and houseing on. then i removed the panel. after removing the panel i removed 2 screws that was holding the fan assy. on, removed the electrical wireing, then i reinstalled the electrical wireing, reinstalled the fan assy. replaced the panel cover,reinstalled the ice maker pluged the unit back in and away she go
At first I thought the fan motor was vibrating the back panel of the freezer. Nope! It was the evaporator motor itself, with worn out bearings creating an off balance fan. Most of the time was spent on removing and replacing the frozen food before getting at the back panel to expose the fan. It was good to find and toss out a few treasures we had forgotten about down there. It's good to have someone with long arms for this job, as the fan is on the back of the freezer, and you are sitting on the floor to begin with. Thanks PartSelect.
I think spent more time removing the frozen food and cleaning the bottom of the freezer compartment than actually changing the fan.it came in one well constructed assembly, fan motor and bracket - an exact match for the existing part. I did not have an ice maker to remove so the steps were pretty simple.1) Remove ice cube tray holder2) Remove about 8 screws that hold the condenser cover plate3) Remove two screws that hold the bracket (fan is attached to bracket)4) Pull bracket away and remove two green ground wire tabs5) Remove power connector6) Clip wire ties from bracket that hold power cable7) Remove old part8) Reverse procedure The old part had some built in wire tie holders that held the power cable away from the fan. I had no problem using a normal wire tie to tie it out of the way. You can probably just fed it around without a wire tie and achieve the same results.All in all a real easy job. I'd say the job was easier than replacing a door knob, but harder than putting on new wiper blades. Should be no problem for someone with average handy man skills.
Took back cover off inside of Freezer. Removed fan and motor assemby and replaced with new parts from Partselect. The assemby came already put together, and was easier than I thought it'd be. Assembly comes with fan, motor, and metal housing. All you need is to screw it in, plug in the three wires, and its good to go.
Unplugged the refridgerator and cleared out the freezer section. Removed the panel at the back of the freezer(six 1/4 in screws )with a nutdriver and two screws on the evap.fan cover.Moved the panel to one side and removed the wiring off the evap.fan assembly.Then removed and installed the new assembly, re-attached the wiring and replaced the back panel and fan cover.The assemble was identical to the one being replaced.Total time about 25 minutes.
Emptied freezer. Removed ice maker. Removed screws and back panel. UNPLUGGED POWER CORD. Unplugged wires to motor. Removed motor housing and replaced with new one. Reversed procedure to assemble.
