Hi Ray, thank you for contacting us. You can use a multimeter to test the thermostat. Get the thermostat cold enough. You will need to put the defrost thermostat in a working freezer. Now set the multimeter to the continuity setting and place each of the multimeters probes on the defrost thermostat wires. If the thermostat is cooler than the closing temperature, the thermostat should have continuity and the meter will produce an audible beeping noise. In this case, the thermostat should be twenty degrees Fahrenheit or cooler to have continuity. If the thermostat is warmer than the opening temperature, the thermostat should not have continuity and the meter will not make any noise. In this case, the multimeter should not have any continuity if it is 55 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer. We hope this information helps!
