Door Handle and Latch Assembly - Black

PartSelect Number PS11731673

This replacement part is a door handle and latch assembly for a dishwasher. The latch keeps the appliance door closed while it is running, and prohibits the dishwasher from starting when the door is open. Depending on your model, you will need to remove approximately eleven screws to remove the inner panel and access the latch assembly. The latch assembly is connected by two wiring harnesses that are nearly identical, so it is recommended to make note of where each harness goes before continuing with the repair. You will need a Torx screwdriver to complete the repair. Disconnect the dishwasher from the power source before beginning this repair.

This part works with the following brands: Whirlpool, Admiral, Estate, Inglis, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper, Maytag, Crosley, Jenn-Air, Hardwick, Magic Chef, Amana, Caloric & Glenwood.

This part fixes the following symptoms:

  • Door latch failure.
  • Door won’t close.
  • Will Not Start.

Door wouldn't latch

I turned offf the power to the dishwasher, then removed about 10 screws to separate the inner door panel from the outer panel. I disconnected wires from 4 terminals, attached them to the new latch assembly and reinstalled the inner panel. The web site was easy to use, but I had reason to call your service people. The lady I talked with was especially helpful. I have bookmarked your web site and would order again, when necessary.

Door latch broken - hard to open the door

The door latch would not work at all, just moved but did not engage. I was not sure if I needed to get the assembly with the Door Handle or not, but once I took it apart I saw the plastic on the handle was broken and also needed to be replaced. Took out the screws around the outside of the door and then pried back the inner door to allow the door latch assembly to come out. A little tough to get the wire off the switch on the old part, had to break them off and then prior the contacts out the the switch with some pliers. The new switch went in without a hitch, the existing outer door screws also are used to hold the latch in place. Overall, took about 15 minutes, and i probably did not to take off half of the screws on the inner door to get to the latch assembly. Removing and replacing all those screws took the longest amount of time.

Latch broken

Amana itself was the biggest issue, not all screws holding cover matched, must have been assembled on a Friday. The electrical connections were a problem too. Being a built-in I couldn't unplug the unit, never thought about the breaker. I got reminded a couple times they were live, and didn't separate easily. Replacing the cover was much easier, had to reposition it a few times for latch to work freely.

Door handle would not close so washer would not operate

I removed the 8 or so screws from the inside of the door. I then slightly pulled back the inside panel of the door exposing the black and white wiring connections to the handle. I removed the bad handle with the wires still connected and then disconnected the black and white wires one at a time and connected them to the new handle, making sure the handle was oriented correctly, handle facing outward. I then removed the bad handle. I put the new handle in place and put in the screws half way into the holes that go through the inside panel into the new handle. I then re-installed the screws from the bottom inside of the door going from the left side to the right and then back like you would lace a shoe until all of the screws were in and tightened and later tested the washer successfully.

Door handle broke because of normal wear and tear, door would get jammed every time it was closed

The repair is extremely simple. Anyone who can use a screwdriver can do it. Watched a video online and it took me less than 30 minutes to fix it once i had the new part. I recommend doing it yourself and saving a lot of time and money.

Super easy fix. Don't pay the repairman.

I unscrewed the screws on the inside door panel with a small star screwdriver, took the old door handle latch assembly out, unplugged the wires from the old assembly, plugged them into the new assembly and set the new assembly in the door. I then realigned the door panel and put the screws back in. simple. I did have to release the latch in the new handle and latch assembly as it came in the open position and had to be released before installation. I used a small flat head screwdriver to lift the latch up and release it from the catch bar.

Broken door latch. Door would not open

First of all you need to get the door to open to do the repair. This took some time to get it open because I really didn't want to do more damage. You need to yank the door open by trying to get your hands at the corners and pulling hard. I did this after trying to get a screwdriver into the latch to disengage the hook that holds it closed. It worked when I grabbed the top right corner and pulled. Got lucky.
