I removed the ice drawer, dumped out the ice and found the front end of the clear plastic auger and the crusher housing cover were broken. To dissassemble the auger system, I removed the phillips head screws that hold the crusher-dispenser onto the drawer, took off the washer and extrernal snap-ring from the auger shaft end. After removing the auger assebly, I pressed in on two plastic catches (on the dispenser housing) and gently pried the dispenser from the drawer with a small flat screwdriver. Then I removed the plastic nut from the end of the auger. Ass'y was much easier once the parts arrived. This repair would probably be too much for the average homeowner.
Repair was simple; unscrew and unsnap the various pieces, and snap-and-screw it back to together. But what a disappointing design. Between replacing seized solenoids (twice) and plastic parts, this through-the-door dispenser "feature" is a maintenance money pit. Sure glad that PartSelect can provide the parts quickly.
We ordered the basket with auger and all I had to do was take the old one out and slide the new one in. EASY !
Shipping service was great> Ordered on a Friday, received it on Tuesday. Slipped out the old one and put the new one in and it works great
Replaced entire ice bucket and auger assembly (one piece).
I took the ice bucket out and looked at it carefully. The auger was breaking apart little by little. I went on-line to find what part I needed. I came to Part Select and they had a diagram telling exactly what part would solve my problem. I ordered it online and it arrived, nicely packed about four days later. I took out the old ice bucket with the broken auger and replaced it with the new one (which I washed out before installing). It was so easy and I didn't have to pay a repairman to do it. The price was reasonable, too. I have this site bookmarked in case anything else needs to be replaced. It's amazing what you can do yourself!
pulled out broken bucket and auger assy. and slid in the replacement. works great so far. The easiest part was ordering the part and it didn't take very long at all to get it. Customer Service was very good at getting the job done. Thanks
Took dispenser out that had a broken auger (plastic ) and replaced it with the new ice dispenser bucket and auger assembly took less than a minute
Repair was as easy as could be...All I had to do was slide out the old bucket and slide in the new one. The only problem was Partselect initially shipped the wrong bucket/auger unit. Upon being notified of the error, they shipped out a new one and I received it three days later. The quality seems the same as the original part, and the Partselect price was almost 35% less than from the mfg. I would definitely order from them again!
I replaced the ice tray with a new one. Could not tell what was broken in the tray, so I just purchased a new one, as the repair man service charge is 60.00 and then you have to pay for the part.
Remove the ice dispenser bucket and auger assembly from box. Washed the assembly. Opened freezer door. Removed old assembly. Slid new assembly into place. End of problem.
1. Slide out that big box with all the ice in it2. Remove two screws (phillips tipped)under white plastic cover, pull off the cover3. Press the two plastic tabs in, to release white box thingy4. Pull the box out, long plastic ice screwer and all5. Notice how the stainless blades go back in before removing6. This up to you, but at this point I took a break 7. Note: the auger nut is a left hand thread, it took me a while to figure that out (Porter?)8. Screw on the new auger nut, I used a putty knife to span the screwdriver like slot, slide your new crusher cover on, slide assembly back into place, install snap ring9. reassemble10. Realize the real problem is the solenoid for the rubber flapper that is stuck open allowing the ice to frost and freeze and break the parts I just replaced 11. to be continued ():
Open freezer door, remove old drawer, insert new drawer (after washing), close freezer door. Saved old drawer for possible spare parts.
